Considering the implications that statement would have on not only the arena negotiations but also the upcoming CBA negotiations, I would have been shocked had he said that. Bettman is a lot of things, but stupid isn’t one of them.

It's probably just going to be about the team's move to Seattle.

I'm surprised we haven't had more wingnuts bring up that the Seattle renderings show the team wearing red & black and the flag raised over their arena yesterday was the black NHL logo over a red background.

Or maybe they have a closet full of Springfield Isotopes merch.

Basically both tournaments could be considered disappointments, which I didn't expect. I'd imagine both sides would be more motivated to get the NHL back into the Olympics for 2022.

PS- I'm actually kinda surprised he got a Q about playoff formats. We were under the top 8 conference format for 20 years, and this is what, year 4 of the divisional format now? Why change it again already? I like the current format as well. I'm guessing the reporter who asked it, does not like the current format.
Yeah I agree on the playoff format. Even Bettman seemed surprised. He said something along the lines of 'from my standpoint changing it has never even been brought up'

Are you insinuating that the Flames are moving to Albuquerque?

Correct. The Flames and Bettman made a play before the election that backfired, and only strengthened the city’s position. King is polarizing enough, but nobody likes Bettman, it’s odd why they would have sent him forward.

Seems like every time the Flames get Betman to stir the arena pot, karma punishes them with a stretch of bad hockey...

The next time that Bettman will talk about this, it will be at a press conference confirming that he's approved the Flames ownership looking to sell and there will be no local condition or keeping the team in the city condition.

I do too, I reaffirmed my respect for him when he treated Principe like a 10 year old junior reporter.

I had the TV on this morning playing Leafs Lunch but I wasn't really paying attention. At one point they started discussing the playoff format and how the Eastern teams hate the new format. I never caught the justification of why the east would hate the new format.

We're going to go down this route are we?

Olympics?
New CcC?
Calgary's financials are, what 16-20th? 2/3 of the BoG are vindictive enough to go nuclear in approving a move, to set precedent with future civic relationships?

I'd love to wager a bet with you, that Gary's next comments relating specifically to Calgary's arena situation, aren't about the NHLBoG approving the Flames move, but I imagine you also love money too much.

I don't think the Olympic's matter at the moment.

Calgary financials in the last Forbes magazine showed that there was very little profit or after cost income.

There will be a reshuffling of franchises instead of expansion.

You're right they might not, but at the same time the relationship between the Flames and the city is pretty much broken, and that's on both parties.

The nuclear option is there to use it, and I think at some point that key is going to be turned.

But reading Calgary4Life's post and having this expectation that the Flames ownership are going to crawl back to Nenshi and the city is foolish, its never going to happen.

Awesome, so it’s a bet then. $100?

Someone should have asked him why they have not addressed the poor officiating in the NHL which is by far the League's biggest problem.

Sure, but if I win, you donate the $100.00 to the charity of Bingo's choice.
