Stewart commands that respect around the league which will help Johnny get some more space on the ice. Worth a shot for a team struggling to score goals.

If Stewart does nothing else but stand in front of the net and screen the goalie on the pp, it will be a great signing.

I hate this coaching staff. Bennett has finally started to look good on the top line so what do they do? Put the new guy on the top line before he even plays a game. I think Bennet on the top line and Stewart would look good with Janko and Ferly.

I just hope the Flames win.

Goddamn it gulutzan. This is exactly what i was scared of. Yes hes a free asset but putting a guy whos been healthy scrathed quite a bit recently on the top line immidiately is a horrible decision especially when bennett was playing well there. This is why we cant have nice things..

Earned, not given. Don't we all love it when a new kid at work is getting all the gravy on day 1. Should work here too.

I would be surprised if these combos last past the first inning.

Stewart will be fired up tonight, I am looking forward to seeing what he's got.
Nobody will be happier to see Bennett on the third than Janko, those two will do some damage tonight.

Yeah, that's pretty ridiculous. I don't think GG deserves a majority of the hatred he gets on here, but man... Bennett was really starting to look good on that top line. A waiver pickup should need to earn their time. When we picked up Stewart I think we all assumed it was to improve the bottom 6... We'll see I guess, maybe it will be short lived or maybe GG's thinking is that it could jump start Stewart a bit and give him some confidence... still don't think he deserves it though.

I get that, but Bennett/Mony/Johnny were ripping it up together. I could see breaking them up if it wasn't working, but that hasn't been the case so far.

We'll see how long the experiment lasts, but it says a lot about our RW situation that a guy who was picked up on waivers steps right onto our first line.
Reminds me of Alex Chiasson (shudder). Heck, they put Versteeg on the top line even though he was a Flame for all of 12 hours.

I think this puts Stewart in a tough spot -- lots of pressure to start producing right away. Maybe he catches lightning in a bottle but I think Bennett should have been given a longer look (maybe GG was afraid he would knock out more of Johnny's teeth).

Stewart does anything but drive play. He commands no respect when the puck is always in his zone when he's on the ice.

I have to admit, with any other coaching staff I'd be willing to give the Stewart thing a pass because it's easy to change lines on the fly if it doesn't appear to be working... Unless your team is coached by Glen Gulutzan.

This little experiment might actually last far beyond its logical conclusion point and that scares me.

I mean I could see Stewart scoring tonight. It might work. But it still doesn't make it right. Don't like the thinking behind it. Hopefully all turns out well.

Precisely, Bennett should be pumped tonight. Why wouldn't he?

Not at all. You finally get some momentum and confidence built in a young player who has all the tools to be a star and you demote him for a waiver wire pickup who has a history of being lazy and taking dumb penalties? This is a lesser degree of Gilbert all over again with Marc Savard. I think GG employs a very good system which he basically ripped of from Mike Babcock but he is an absolute moron when it comes to lines and man management. Like beyond incompetent! Chris Stewart is garbage, he shouldn't even be on the 4th line let alone the 1st. Get this goof of a coach out of here before he totally drives Bennett out of town only to explode somewhere else.

Is anyone really surprised? Stewart is the new Ferland while he's injured. GG is just replicating his favorite line. The surprising thing is bumping Bennett out after he's had a pretty good showing.

I'm with you. I'm done. I wonder how the guys in the rooms feel seeing Bennett demoted over a waiver wire pick up. Pathetic coaching. He's going to lose the room if he hasn't already.

Holy Overreaction Batman! They are giving the new guy a boost and a chance to succeed, which probably won't last all game unless that line produces early. And its guy that fits the same archetype of the injured player (ferland) he's replacing.

I get that Bennett is our highest pick ever and we want him to succeed, but he did not earn that spot, so lets not act like its some kind of travesty that he's been put back where he belongs. It also spreads the talent out a little bit.

This is not even close to the Savard/Gilbert situation. Savard was benched for not playing defence yet the Flames were giving up 5 goals a game when he was in the pressbox. He was one of the ONLY Flames besides Iginla to produce offensively on a team desperate for goals.

Bennett should have been benched/scratched many times over for his play and his idiotic penalties earlier in the season. But nope Gulutzan didn't do a damn thing to him. He has actually given him a longer leash than most coaches.
