People keep referring to Bennett as ‘gritty’ and ‘competitive’ and seem to not notice that he disappears at all aspects of the game for long, long stretches. Bennett’s play seems antithetical to both of those descriptions. I think the best way to describe Bennett is ‘skilled but brutally inconsistent’. Look at his game logs this year. Without actually looking it up, I’m pretty sure most of his points basically came in one 15 game streak around December. Outside of that he has like 4 points in 38ish games. That is unacceptable for a guy like that. To me he is easily the most disappointing. If he was able to put in a good consistent efforts and even .4-.5ppg on a *consistent* basis, this team would be in the running for the division. People love to point to Bennett not having the best line mates, I think it’s Jankowski you should feel bad for.

Bennett is chippy but he's not especially good without the puck. If he doesn't make it as a scorer, I don't see what his role will be in the NHL.

Oh I agree he’s chippy, which leads to his plethora of undisciplined penalties. I guess when I hear ‘gritty’ I think of a guy who wears down the other team on a consistent basis, a word that should never be associated with Bennett.
