Sons doesn't even refer to men or women in this sense.
It's like getting upset for referring to humanity as 'mankind'.
I'm still waiting for the rewrites on Tiny Dancer and Yellow Submarine, because I too choose to demand alterations to previously written pieces of art.
In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines
So we sailed up to the sun
Till we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
In our yellow submarine
ought to be
In the town where I was born
Lived a us who sailed to sea
And us told us of us' life
In the land of submarines
So we sailed up to the sun
Till we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
In our yellow submarine
I'm also generally offended that Elton John's song doesn't go the way I choose to hear it:
"Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today"
ought to be
Hold me closer Tony Danza ("large sized dancer" would also be acceptable to me)
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Same with "Smoke on the water...the fire in the sky.."
I much prefer: "Slow walking Walter...the fire engine guy".
Just change the anthem to “Wheat Kings” by the Hip and be done with it.
"Wheat kings and pretty things" is obviously misogynistic though.

Okay, okay, based on the whole "let's just go without lyrics" thing, here is my new proposed anthem.
The only issue is that I'd have to start sounding like Trump. Any NHL player who refuses to stand for Brass Bonanza should be immediately fired and thrown out of the arena.
