I got a Kitten from the Humane society for about 130$, spayed, and had all of her inital shots as well.
I'm not going to attack you for getting a kitten from Petland, but the little kitten I got from the Humane Society cost me less money, and she has turned out of be a great cat for me.
Just don't see why you wouldn't want to do that.

How did I know that'd be the first reply... I know there are alterative routes but this is the route we're taking.
If you know the answer, please answer it. Otherwise, I'm not looking for anyone's 2 cents. But thanks anyway.

Well, why didn't you just look up their phone number and give them a call. You
could have asked them directly and gotten an answer in 2 minutes.

How about you use your head and check the time of the original post... I don't know of many Petlands that are open past 11pm do you?
Hell, I even went down there today to find out myself because I didn't get a definitive answer.
Good enough for ya?

I've got a cat from Street Cats who is currently sitting on my arms as I type wanting pets and another that I got at the SPCA that loves me to death, we got her when she was about 4. Both of them are extremely affectionate cats so I still say don't buy from Petland.

How can anyone buy a pet from a "pet shop"? A gold fish? Perhaps. A hamster, maybe. Other than that, I see no reason for these businesses to reside except to help owners maintain their pets.
Shops like these are selling "pets" for profit. Period. No better breeding, no better likeliness that they have a good personality. Good luck on THAT draw.
The best "pet" I have seen in the last decade or so came from the SPCA... a German Shepard pup. My buddy got him as a puppy, named him "Molson" and I have to admit, I have never EVER seen a better dog in my life. There are too many situations to describe. Molson was just the ultimate dog. Unfortunately he died a couple years ago.
Jordon, getting a pet from a shop like Petland won't ensure in any way that you get a better pet, or that you love him/her more, nor he/she loves you less.
Strongly recommend you look at all the options. Petland is the type of company that is in the grey area between the "free" ones or the Streetcats ones versus going out and finding a true breeder where you even pay more, but have that much more chance of finding your "perfect" cat.
Personally, I think that you would not be any better ahead from buying a pet shop boy from going to Streetcats or any other such organization (or getting a free pet from ads). Humanitarian wise, the latter option even adds more credence to go that route.

We got our cat from the MEOW foundation. They have all ages of cats, and can tell you if the cat gets along with other cats, which may be more important in you rsituation. You foster the cat for a month to make sure you get along. If not, they can offer you a different cat, or just pick it up.
You go to a house where they keep their cats, and as you see a cat they will tell you its tempermant.
And it is non-profit, they do it for the love of cats.
Do what you want, but most rescue foundations are doing it for the love of the animals.

Look, to put it bluntly. I don't give a fudge what methods you've used of getting a pet.. We've got pets there in the past and it's worked for us. I just simply forgot the price, topic done.
Either way, the pets at Petland need homes as much as any other pet, and our family has no problem going there to get a new cat. we've done it before and we will do it again.
Thanks for stopping by...

Petland animals need a home too. Not just the cage as the home for them being on display all day. I got my dog from Petland once and it was great to see the look in the face of your pet. It made my day but I also support the SPCA for adopting. Im currently thinking into adopting a greyhound from http://www.sagaa.org/

CF- I understand how it seemed like people were ganging up on you, but from a 3rd perspective I didn't see it that way.
First off, let me say I got my last pet from Petland- for many of the same reasons you did.
But there's a bunch of info in this thread, and if that helps people find the right "best friend" then I don't see the harm.
Plus, after seeing the "Katrina Pet" thread a few weeks ago, I would think this type of response wouldn't surprise you.
Here's hoping your new friend and you have a long happy life together.

Who the hell crapped in your cornflakes?
We're just tryin' to help you out, and moreso make mention of a not-for-profit organization that is trying to give pet's good homes.
You'd think we called you a kitten-killer or something ....

When you come off as a close minded ass, people are going to call you on it Jordan.
Just human nature.
Maybe if you hadn't just implied "fudge off, I'm going to petland", people might be a little friendlier.

It's a trend on message boards when a simple question is asked.. you get people with their 2 cents. It's really no suprise but it's annoying as hell.
I basically am saying fudge off to anyone with other advice, because I don't recall asking for it.
Sorry, if I came off as an ass but really people, I stated earlier on that i'm not looking for alternative routes, or opinions just a simple answer to a simple question that couldn't have been answered via telephone at that time of night.
Now, lets forget all this un-needed hostility and let this topic go away. My question ahs been answered.

No offense Jordan but if this thread has:
a. given you your answer and
b. taken a direction you don't like
Quit reading it.
This ain't calgaryjordan.com People can discuss whatever they want when it comes to a topic that is brought up. Everything in this thread (with the exception of this post perhaps) is on topic and therefore appropriate.

If you don't want two cents worth why ask the twocentrers.
Too much I think I answered, you obviously ignored that.
So you promote the big guy ,support that huge pet problem.

Not really...On message boards alot of times people are just bored and think whatever they've done in the past is right. On some occaisions sure you'll get input from other people but in general if you're asking a question, people usually just say "I don't know" where message boards may aswell be a debate forum.
If someone ask's that they don't require your opinions on other routes. I will respect that, not everybody does. It's really no biggie but as the topic starter asking a simple question, it's just a _tad_ annoying seeing all this 3rd party input. I've had cats all my life and have lost a couple so I know that other routes exist but we're comfortable with Petland so we're going to go there.
I stated this in the 3rd post man... Messageboards are way different that the real world in every single possible way. A guy who is extremely outspoken, causing ruckus, ect aka me Is actually a very friendly, laid back fella off the site.
In all honestly you guys can go on and on, but my question has been answered so i'm done here.

I'm sure you'll get a nice cat wherever you go.
Indoor cats live an average of 11 years and outdoor cats live an average of 2 years if I'm not mistaken.

Exactly... there is NOTHING wrong with Petland as their cats need homes too. If i'm a sucker for giving petland a minimal profit, so be it.
Also that's an interesting stat Cow. I must've been lucky. Our older cat was 17 when it died, outdoor his whole life. Our other cat that we had to put down was 13 indoor.
