Hoping this is the beginning of the end for the IOC. And at their own hands, no less.

This ruling makes no sense. Everyone will know the neutral athletes are Russian...

Unless it comes with measures preventing Russia's Olympic committee from being involved with the athletes? Russian TV will probably just show them as Russian.

Under the assumption that the KHL decides to boycott the games I have a proposal... instead of sending the ECHL/CIS Team we just send the WJC Team Canada + Iggy?

A lifetime Olympic ban to the deputy prime minister who is the official organizer of next years World Cup must have FIFA a bit nervous too.

1992 they did it under the Unifiied Team mainly because of the instability of everything with the fall of state sanctioned communism.

There’s no instability this time with Putin, and this being a direct attack on Russia and thus him personally , I suspect no athlete will compete under the OAR, or else they’ll be hit with a oar and tossed into the Caspian Sea.

Probably has financial implications as well. Russia may not be technically allowed to 'sponsor' athletes to go compete who are playing for the neutral team...although I'm sure that would be difficult to enforce practically.

Oh, I dont know about that, a little corruption here and there has never rustled FIFA's jimmies in the past. In fact, they'd probably just be disappointed in the low-level of corruption.

"They just want to win? Thats it? No fleecing millions of suckers at the same time? They think so small!"

Yes, thats part of the ban, no Russian NOC accredited officials permitted. I think the ban goes about as far as they can go without exposing the IOC to lawsuits. I have to add, are there any clean Russian athletes? The one whistle blower couple had to go into witness protection in the US.

No not about the corrupt part, that’s more than accepted at this point, I mean more about what sort of reaction this guy and the Russians have when it comes to certain things to do with the WC in regards to the World sporting community who go along (ie “not object”) with the IOC on the Olympic banning of Russia. Retribution for the personal affront and attack on Russian sport.

Would certain countries press (or coaches, or players) be banned from entering the country, for example? Or passport issues just before a game against Russia? Sudden operational snafus etc. Wouldn’t want to be playing in Russia’s group or past the group stages.

This is stupid and pointless. Just ban the cheaters and let the clean ones compete for Russia.
I think it makes sense. It punishes the cheaters and the country that encouraged/facilitated/turned a blind eye to cheating. It gives the non-cheaters an avenue to compete if they want to.

I get how a neutral solo athlete can compete - but who runs the neutral teams?

Can there be multiple neutral hockey teams?

Can non-Russian players play for a 'mostly Russian' neutral team?

Does the vacancy of removing the Russian hockey team automatically get filled by the neutral team, or does a team that was closest to making the IIHF qualifying teams (Belarus/Latvia/France) suddenly get entered into their place?

In theory. As mentioned, not sure who’s going to fund their development and training, along with the costs associated for moving to a new country after Russia deports (at best) them for treason.

True, that's going to be hard for them. I think it really depends on the sport. Individual sports like skiing or figure skating, those athletes can probably find training venues, coaches, sponsors, etc. I don't know how a hockey team competes, or a team that's dependent on equipment like bobsled.
