Gillies would need waivers though, yes? It still seems to me that one of Rittich and Gillies will be gone next year. Which is unfortunate, but that's the way it goes with the waivers rule.

Gillies is waiver exempt to until the start of the 19/20 season or if he plays 78 more NHL games, whichever happens first.

Rittich needs waivers at the start of next season or 60 more NHL games played

awesome, thanks. Thought they'd both need waivers next year, but happy to be wrong on this one.

I'd say Janko getting unchained was the best news since Jagr signed, but this is a very close second. I didn't mind Lack as a cheap backup option with possible upside if he could find his game again, but so glad that the Flames think their stable of goalies is finally ready to step it up. Rittich has earned his chance.

If Rittich handles this well he could carve out an NHL career with this single call-up.

I was just saying I think Jankowski getting recalled was the best news since Jagr was signed and Rittich getting recalled is the second best news...

I'm happy to see it's Rittich and not Gillies. Rittich has accomplished more in the AHL and deserves this shot now. Gillies will get his chance at some point.

This is awesome. Rittich is awesome. Serious upside.

Probably our most under rated prospect.

Really excited to see what he can bring to the team

Wrong. They are perpendicular to street thugs.

He doesn't have to set the world on fire but if he can just give us 20 games of Karri Ramo-level goaltending, I'll take it. Should be enough to keep Smith fresh for the playoffs.

I would imagine his first choice was the other Flames goalie in the AHL, John Gillies, who has already played NHL minutes this season.

I don’t think there is much lost in the choice between Rittich and Gillies. They have been pretty evenly competitive for over a year now.
