I'm really surprised they didn't bother trying to line up any software for their release of the Xbone X.

They had two years and there was literally nothing they advertised it with. Basically just Crackdown and that got delayed (thank goodness, it looked like a 360 game).

It's almost like they got sick of being kicked in the head over and over again that their console was underpowered, couldn't to 1080p, was getting outsold 2:1 and spent a ####ton of money to push out the X with no software and said:

"See. There. Here's the most powerful console (for now). Now #### off."

It is bizarre that they had nothing new to show off the XB1X with, but at least Microsoft has belatedly realized that they need exclusives, promised such and now plans to buy new studios. After closing the ones they had...

You can stream your Xbox games to your windows 10 PC, so if your family wants to use the TV that you have your console setup on they can continue you to watch it while you play your games on your Windows 10 PC.

Not true at all, there is 100+ Xbox games that are X Enhanced on Day 1 of the One X. Yes they technically didn't have November 7 game with the launch but Forza 7 recently was released, Battlefront II(4k,HDR) released last Friday, Halo 5: Guardians(4k, 60FPS) which plays amazing. Just to list a couple. I have been Playing ESO: Morrowind on 4k, HDR for the last week or two and it rivals Ultra settings on PC.

What many forget is the games are not going to be XBOX One X exclusive, so to be honest they have had massive buy in from developers to have that many games "One X enhanced" for day one launch.

Are they making any games that utilize the connect for the Xbone? The connect sports games were some of my favourite on the 360 and can't seem to find any geared for the one.

I agree, if you want to buy a console for exclusives go ahead and get the PS4, iif you want the console that plays all the non-exclusive titles the best? get an Xbox, if you want VR get the PS4 Pro, if you want a solid PC comparable system get the Xbox One X.

But it is all personal preference, like Cube said, for his moneys worth his #1 is the Switch.

Kinect has been killed by Microsoft, no future game support. I had kinect and the games, loved them for a week then only used the Kinect to record my clips and turn off the xbox.

They did get initial console exclusivity with PUBG, which was a HUGE win for Microsoft and from what I hear are working on getting full exclusivity rights.

Unfortunate. I regret buying it even more now. It was basically just being used as a media extender and now that Shaw has Netflix integrated with Bluesky, even that could go out the door. Hopefully Rocksmith was a good pickup.

I called EB the other day to finally get rid of the brand new Kinect I had sitting a drawer for years. The guy snorted and said they'd give $5 with it being abandoned and no longer supported by Microsoft.

At least the base console was worth $150. They had a promotion for $200 if you got a Xbone X though.

So is my purchase of an Xbox One X for my kids a mistake?

Should I just get a PS4 for less than half?

They want to play Forza and NHL games.

I doubt there is really a "mistake" situation. Thunderdome console wars aside, if they really want Forza you are pretty much locked in unless you want (or can) run it on PC. Or get them into Gran Turismo instead.

If you are really worried about the price though, there is always the Xbone S instead. They're basically on fire sale right now. $230 this week. $60 if you have points to burn at Shopper Drug Mart.

And there is always the best alternative, get both the Xbone and PS4. Or 3 with the Switch.

(Actually, for the price of the Xbone X, you could easily get the Xbone S and a PS4 with money left to spare for more games.)

Yeah, when I say Forza - it's more like they want to play car racing games with heavy customization.

That BB&B deal just seems so killer and is less than half the price of the X.

Why are people even talking about the X in here?

Its $600 and therefore not at all what he is looking for...Paying $400 for a bump in frame rate and resolution certainly doesn't fit the OP.

Personally I would give the PS4 the edge on games and hardware is better (again OG systems) but you will probably be able to find a used Xbone for $150 or so (New S is $239 on Friday) and that is an absolute steal IMO.

If you don't have a nice to high end 4k TV, then yep! The Xbox One S is half the price! the One X is a niche console.

For the OP a used Xbox, or a new One S with game bundle coming up for Black Friday will be your best bets, if exclusivity matters grab a PS4.

Either console is a good choice, and someone who's playing somewhat casually won't pick up on many of the differences. It doesn't sound like the OP will be getting in to much of what Sony has to offer in terms of the big AAA cinematic exclusives, so Xbox One S may be the best value proposition if something like 4K resolution isn't a priority. EA Access is pretty appealing and a way to maintain a stockpile of free games to dip in to for a casual gamer. Xbox also probably still acts as the best overall entertainment device when games aren't being played.

Watching some of the reviews for Forza 6 makes me think that if I get one it will be the XBOX One so that I can play Forza.

The Best Buy flyer says the XBOX S for $230 is a doorcrasher. If that means I have to go into the store then I'll pass and look for it elsewhere online at that price.
