So Freddy can be sent down anytime, which one would expect when Jagr is back. One can assume that Anderssen would be sent down when Hamonic is healthy. Glass on waivers seems like we're either going to make a trade or call up a farm hand. Otherwise I don't see why we wouldn't use all 23 roster spots.

Why does it always take the Flames 15 games to fix the problems? Why did they sign him in the first place is what I want to know.

Seeing how Mangiapane looks for just a few games wouldn't hurt. Let him play 8-10 minutes and if he looks like a fish out of water send him back. Team needs more scoring depth and the kid can score.

Have some thoughts on Glass. Too long for thread, too short for blog. TL;DR - would not be surprised at all if NYR claim.

Maybe they changed their mind and decided to send down Glass instead of Hamilton.

Signing him was completely silly. Hope he is gone.

One of the worst players I've watched on the Flames in a long time.

I can't believe how seemingly good management teams get suckered into small sample sizes on a known quantity in this league for what, the truculence and grit? Please. We had options on the farm to develop instead of Glass. Now, yup, waived, who could have predicted?

Meathead for meathead, they're obviously looking to bring up Cramarossa </greentext>

I think Tanner did just fine as a fourth liner but he's only useful against bigger, slower teams. If he does get claimed by the Rags, I hope he does well.

Hamilton is more versatile - he can play more situations and more positions. Glas sis one of those guys who fans like but when you look at his underlying game, isn't an effective use of a lineup spot.

A month too late, and exactly what the fans called for. Hope he gets claimed and that bartkowski is next

Good now we can send down either guy. Glass can continue to sit for all I care, rather him sit then Hathaway or Lazar etc

What's the deal here? I don't think we're smarter than the guys in charge. I think we might be more reactionary and willing to dispose of marginal talent regardless of whether they're a veteran or have put in a number of years into the team. Is that it? Management is more cautious and moves more slowly and less reactionarily, even though they probably see the same things we do?

Yeah....Setoguchi, Glass, Grossman and to a lesser extent Raymond and Bollig....plenty of posters questioned those from day one, other posters took a no harm no foul approach, but really what was the point of these signings?

I think this is a pretty good indication of one or more of the following:

1) The flames are comfortable with Glass being claimed, given their depth. Jankowski and Hathaway have impressed. And Lazar seems increasingly capable of locking down a roster spot.

2) The flames would rather have hamilton on their roster than Glass. If both players make your team only marginally better as the fourteenth forward, why not have the guy that fits in better.

3) The flames want to try Hathaway on the fourth line.

I predicted he would be on the waiver wire by Halloween when he signed. Made it 6 days longer than I thought.

I was just about to post the same thing.

Honestly, he's not a bad guy to have around. What if the Flames sustain a bunch of injuries and are playing Anaheim in the playoffs? Glass can play 10 hard minutes and fight their best fighter. He costs the team 650K.

I think the point is that their low risk, but can potentially make a meaningful impact to the team. Off the top of my head, here are some "meaningless" signings and trades that worked out pretty good:

Oliwa
Husselius
Versteeg when signed in 2016
Giordano
Chris Russell
schlemko

Flames have lots of youth really close, but they don't want to rush them and gift them spots right off the bat to start a season, so we've seen them continue to bring in older veteran players to ease the transition. Guys like Versteeg, Jagr, Glass, who along with Stajan won't be here again next season and might not even make to the end of this season as they are pushed out gradually by young guys like Janko, Hathaway and hopefully Mangiapane, etc.

Hamilton sitting in the press box 80% or more of the time isn't a big deal IMO.

It's just too bad Brouwer has 2 years left on his deal, but at least his NTC downgrades to limited after July 1st so that if a trade can be found at least he can't block it. Hopefully his play doesn't continue to degrade which in essence is the ultimate NTC.

He was better than Grossman, but equally unnecessary. Useful as a veteran presence in Stockton, I suppose.

What is the team's contract number at right now? It could very be that they're trying to rid themselves of another pro deal so they can either make a trade or sign a prospect.
