They are great. Between the trailers are viewing platforms that have heavy grated floors. The biggest bears could get their noses right up to about the bottom of the grate and if you put your hand down to the grate you could feel their breath as then sniffed.
Our first day we arrived late and got there right at dusk. We were all like little kids running back and forth trying to get pics of the bears. The “manager” was laughing at us and said “trust me, they will be there in the morning.” My response was, “you know that, but we don’t, so we’re going to keep going.” Sure enough in the morning, and for the entire time we were there the 3-4 bears stuck around.
Some notes about the lodge, it looked like basic trailers but there were luxuries. I thought I had pics of the inside but the sleeping accommodations were little cabins with room for a single bed and some space to store your stuff. Most importantly was a window to look out at the bears. There were two sleeping cars, a living room car, din8ng room, and then crew and storage in the last one. The food was ridiculously good. Fantastic near gourmet level. Going hungry was not possible.
Staying in the lodge out there was more money but to be able to “sleep with the bears” made it worth it. Other people on our tour stayed in hotels in town and they would get bussed to the edge of the area and then drive out in the polar rovers. Frequently they would come park beside the lodge as we had bears. That coming and going seemed a waste of time to me.
