If you don't mind me asking, how old are you (feel free to give a range if you want)? I didn't realize a lot of men's leagues had refs until now and was wondering who actually does the reffing. I'd like to get out on the ice more, and this might be a good way to do it.

The job is fun and fulfilling, watching the students actually improve in front of your eyes every week. The pay is $20 per hour, and again you supply your own transportation and they don't pay for travel time either. You just get paid for your tutoring time. As an aside, I am thinking of doing some private tutoring (maybe set up shop at a library at a public location like Starbucks or at SAIT), but I am now just trying to gain more experience and hopefully I can set up some sort of a side business by next September....
Anyways, if anyone is interested in being a mobile tutor with the online company I am with right now please PM me as I do have a referral code I can use and it may get you in more easily? And if anyone is interested in doing private tutoring maybe we can talk about setting up something together?
P.S. You guys don't say that I am LAZY anymore!!!!

For the company I am with, I just applied online with my resume. They call you for an initial phone interview, then they have a Skype session to meet with you face to face, and then I was in.
Qualification-wise, you need to know your sh*t!! You can't pretend you are a calculus expert if you don't even know what is a derivative or integration. But I found that I myself can go with the flow and remember things that I haven't touched for 10+ years...
Also you will need to have a clean police record as they do ask for a background check, to make sure that you are not a child molester....
PM me and we can chat further....

A small part time job, self-employed, cleaning an office nearby twice a week.
It isn't a lot of money, but it does help.

What leagues did you ref floor hockey in?

if you are interested in reffing, you could try getting in touch with hockey Calgary, and see what you need to do there to get certified to do some reffing.
the higher your certification, the more money you can make. I believe for younger kids it is something like $25 for an hour. you could likely have some scheduling flexibility as there are games all over, during week nights and weekends, and if you really liked it, you could move up the reffing ranks an work AAA games.
I think the key to having a PT to supplement your income is finding the right job. something that is close to your house or FT job (who wants to spend time in traffic going to someplace far away).

It's not more than you would have paid, but it's a bit of a shock when you see that large amount owing on your tax return.
The key is to communicate with the 2nd employer that you have another job and to take tax off, since the first set of credits/deductions are given to you by your first employer.

Or set aside the taxes you know you'll have to pay. Calculating that is easy. Folks who ignore the taxes and spend the money are in for a shock but it's easily avoided.

There is this as well for people interested in STEM type projects. The only problem is some of them are very low paying for the amount of work you have to put in. Bonus is you get paid in USD. I used to do a few small programming jobs, but you have to compete with people all over the world to get a small project who will clamor like crazy over a $25 or $50 project.

Can confirm that skip the dishes is below minimum wage after including price of gas and insurance. You're also considered an independent contractor so watch out for that come tax time.
Now that I'm out of school and working in my career I'll occasionally play goal for some men's teams around the city. I charge $25 for a game/practice (1 hour)
