I don't think it was that bad. Not many teams will hold Edmonton to 2 goals. Looked organized. Build from there.

Same ####, different year. Wouldn't mind seeing this team move to Seattle, only to get a new team either through expansion or relocation. Since 1989 (and one fluke year), this team has been hot garbage and one of the worst in the league. Time to burn the curse and start fresh!

Look. Brodie was definitely far and away the worst D-man tonight but the others were nothing good to write about.
Hamonic was just as umm.....indifferent as Gio & Dougie were, but Hamonic really was VERY damn slow footed tonight.

CP has to be the worst forum to overreacting
It's game 1. The new guys played well (Glass, Hamonic, Smith), now the older Flames need to step it up. Move on.

It wasn't just with McDavid on the ice, it was with pretty much with every other Oiler on the ice too regarding Hamonic.

There was one good hockey team on the ice tonight.
Smith was excellent.

All six defenseman looked like ####. They played like they are dwelling on last year's playoff exit. Nobody looked excited to be there. Except Smith. He battled and I have to tip my hat. Especially with that ####ing junk in front of him. Gross.

I know it would never happen, but scratching Brodie for the home opener to send a message would make me very happy. Sure he wasn't the only brutal player tonight, but he's really been sucking for a long time now.

Smith really held them in the game tonight. A big relief to have a goalie that you can usually count on.

positives
New guys looked solid. Especially Smith
Lucic is going to be a bad contract as soon as this year.
Draisatl coughed up the puck a lot.

Hamonic should be better because he has been.
Really he was no worse than any other D-man, and miles and miles better than Brodie tonight, that's for sure. But...Hamonic WAS really damn noticeably slower tonight than most other Flames.

It's disrespectful to say the Oilers are only one-man team, what about
A top paring defense in Klefbom-Larsson
Franchise player in Leon Draisaitl
#1 Goaltander in Talbot
Not to mention players like Lucic,Maroon,RNH, etc.

No offense but did you watch the game? Not that bad? Couldn't get much worse without Smith bailing us out.

The only time I can recall Hamonic looking slow was when Gaudreau missed him with a pass by 10 feet and almost gifted McDavid another breakaway. But I don't think you can fault Hamonic for that as he was skating into one position and Gaudreau threw the puck behind him up the middle of the ice.

I kind of remember him reaching a couple of times....and I didn't really notice him much before the third. He did improve though. Brodie wan't too Brodie-like tonight. Gio and Hamilton were there. Stone and Bart weren't really too bad at all. Game 1, it was weird.

I thought the only thing that made Brodie look worse than Gaudreau tonight was being in the frame when bad things were happening by the net.
Gaudreau was the worst flame on the night.
Smith looked great, I thought Hamilton and and gio looked good. Glass was the best skater, honourable mention to tkachuk.
That was a one-sided game.
