Weren't Johnny and Monahan having their share of extra curricular fun back when Hudler was their linemate? I wonder if they were influenced by Jiri?

i think he is trying to say that Hudler's alleged activities might have been why Cervenka never caught on in the NHL.

Ignoring the fact that Cervenka had blood clots and was injured in Europe before the NHL's shortened season started.

wow.... I didn't know hudler had any kind of off-ice issues. Always envisioned him as a solid character, and one of those vets that helped the young guys the year we made the playoffs 3 seasons ago.

Unfortunate. I really thought he'd land a 1 year gig, or PTO, on a club like chicago. As a cheap, high skill player.

A lot of Finns I've known have really dry, dark humour. I kind of wonder if this account wasn't exaggerated a bit.

If it went down as described there would be criminal charges and air marshal stuff.

But as others have said, if it is accurate this doesn't surprise me. He always struck me as a little crazy.

At first glance I figured it was a misunderstanding and he'd made a bad joke about his coke. But maybe not.

Makes you wonder about his mystery illness last year.

He was not able to come over early and adapt culturally (speak any English). Supposedly the problem was solved by having Hudler assigned as his translator and cultural attache.

If Hudler was a wild and crazy guy at the time it might not have been the best opportunity for Cervenka to reach his potential.

I for one just hope that this is the breaking point for him, and that he seeks out and undergoes successful treatment. Addiction is a terrible thing. This is of course, supposing that he indeed does have an addiction issue. Whatever it is, I just hope he manages to recover from this and move forward again in life.

That's really too bad. I've often wondered how players cope when their careers end not on their terms (not fully sure of Hudler's details - contract situation etc). Hopefully he gets his life in order.

Well. Given the alleged stories we've all heard surrounding our young fellas can't say I'm surprised. Disappointed but not surprised

Not shocking. Something didn't add up when he was a ppg player and then out of the league a few seasons later.

Glad we got rid of him.
