They could have had Stajan play the wing and not signed Glass (or had Jankowski play wing, either/or). If he's not willing to do that then it's not happening for Jankowski this year outside of injury call-ups. He'll have to wait for next year when Stajan is gone.

Holy overreactions Batman.
Jankowski will be on the roster, just some shuffling is needed to be done to get the house in order first.

Why does this keep getting said? That was Hartley's quote. Last time I checked, Hartley was no longer employed by the organization. If fact, I haven't heard management use this quote a since the day he left.
Sure it sucks Jankowski got sent down. But it's a numbers game right now and he'll be back before too long, and likely will stay in the NHL until the day he retires. What's a couple more days, after waiting 5 years for his debut?

Wouldn't be the day before preseason if we didn't all lose our minds and have conniption about a rookie with 8 NHL games experience, who likely would have been on the 3rd line, not playing in the season opener.

It's not the end of the world.
In saying that shuffling should not have to take place to fit in a player who heavily outplayed six players currently on the opening roster (Hamilton, Lazar, Glass, Stajan, Brouwer and Hathaway)

I am ok with this.
Why? Because he will be back.
The outrage at keeping Freddie Hamilton (13th forward who is always a healthy scratch) or Glass (who will play maybe half the games and with limited minutes when he is in) is a bit much.
Stajan was his real competition, but I would much rather have Jankowski getting ample minutes on the top line in Stockton than getting limited minutes on the bottom line.
The guys on the bottom line are not - IMO - direct competition to Jankowski. He will be back. Injuries are going to happen, lines are going to get juggled. He was (and IS) better than anyone on the 4th line, but is that where he should slot in to start his NHL career?
I just think it makes more sense in having what I consider a top 6 center developing as a top 6 center, playing 20 minutes a night at EV, PP and PK, than have him playing < 12 minutes a night. I still think he ends up as a really good top 6 winger given the Flames' center strength, but it will come in time.
I do, however, think that he is NHL-ready. However, this is about asset management as well. You need depth in this league, and though I don't think Stajan 'has it' any longer, I can't argue with the notion that he brings a lot of value to the team in different areas as well. It isn't like Stajan is a poor 4th liner.
I can understand that people are disappointed - even angry - at Jankowski being sent down, but this is a temporary move I would bet, and it gives Jankowski the opportunity to get some valuable playing time.
Heck, there may indeed be a trade brewing in the next 24-72 hours anyway, and all of this angst can be put to rest.

Treliving has enough credit in the bank for me to trust this is part of a bigger plan.
He's done enough smart things to suggest he doesn't actually believe Freddie, Stajan and Glass are more useful than Janko.

It is also about asset management. One of those are not like the other in terms of waiver status. Waiving Jankowski is the path of least resistance.

They had to make a decision which is fine. The question is, what is the rationalization? What kept him off the roster and what did they tell Jankowski?
Because all the lead up narrative was he was playing well, had a strong camp, scored goals, won draws etc. We heard how they would make room for young players who come in and win jobs. So what f'n gives?
Until they provide rationale I'm going to continue to think this is horse ####.

They probably told him he is an NHLer and they will make room for him. They just need a little time.

Are you Mark Jankowski?
No?
Then why are the Flames providing you with rationale for their roster decisions about him?

Freddie can spend all 82 games rotting in the pressbox and I wouldn't bat an eye.
If Janko isn't getting meaningful minutes with the big team, then he should be tearing it up in the A.
Having said that, it feels like there are more dominoes to fall, and both Jankowski and Jagr will be regulars with the Flames.
Just one man's opinion.

I don't have any idea what was said to Jankowski today, but I would be very certain in contained:
"You will not be there for long", "You did more than enough to make the team, and it is on us now for making room for you".
I am pretty sure he didn't get demoted with: "Oh, sooo close, but no cigar.... sucka!"

I wonder if Freddie Hamilton will remain on the roster for the duration of Dougie's tenure here.

They still may be. If they are working out a trade, they need to act like the trade isn't certain to maintain their bargaining position.
