It's always 2 steps forward, one step back with this team.

If Jankowski was being considered for a top 9 role where he'd be playing every day and easing into some special teams play (probably PK to start), that would be one thing. Adding Jagr doesn't seem to leave room for Jankowski in a top 9 role.

Sorry, no time for nuance when we're serving up the hottest takes possible.

Doesn't make very much sense to me. Jankowski has earned his spot on the roster and him spending a year learning from a player like Jagr is invaluable.

They would have sent him down if they weren't going to play him regularly.

Why don't we just demote Stajan or Hamilton? Oh wait, I know why, one's a veteran and that would be bad, and the other is here to keep Dougie happy. Always earned, never given, right?

I hope I'm wrong and Janko makes this team, because he's been more impressive than at least five different players still up front.

Maybe he’s being held out because he’s part of a Duchene trade?

I will be shocked if Jankowski is sent down. Not happening. He earned his way on the team, and it isn't close.

One thing I have been wondering for a while though... maybe they are planning on giving Stajan the opening night roster spot as an honour. Then replacing him with Jankowski in game 2.

14+7+2 roster

14 Forwards assuming Jagr and Glass signings become official:

1. Gaudreau
2. Monahan
3. Ferland
4. Tkachuk
5. Backlund
6. Frolik
7. Versteeg
8. Bennett
9. Jagr
10. Stajan
11. Glass
12. Brouwer
13. Hamilton
14. Lazar

Only player of that group that doesn't need waivers to be sent down is Tkachuk.

So the Flames are going to play a player in Edmonton then waive him and call up Jankowski to play in the home opener?

I think if the decision is between Jankowski on the 4th line or vs Jankowski in Stockton, I pick Stockton.

Yes, Jankowski may be 23 years old, but he is very far from a fully-developed player. Is he NHL-ready? Yes. However, the last thing I want for Jankowski is to stifle his offensive development. I think he can be so much more than just a reliable defensive player/possession monster. I think he can be a very great 2-way player, and that means he needs to get quality minutes and continue to develop his offensive game more by playing with quality offensive players.

Foo/Poirier on the RW, and Mangiapane on the LW helps him achieve that IMO.

At any rate, injuries are bound to happen, and I doubt that the Flames will be as lucky as they were last year in regards to injuries. I would expect to see Jankowski back sometime in October in a top 9 role. He shouldn't ever be a 4th liner, IMO.

My personal opinion is that it would be a real kick in the pants to be Jankowski and get sent down while you watch a guy like Lazar make the team.

Who woulda thought that the Flames were so solid down the middle that they would have problems fitting a guy like Jankowski in. Haven't seen that kind depth in the position since the early 90s.

I don't about this, Janko led Stockton last year and has had a great training camp. He's ready period. He, imo, would balance the lines making the 4th line an offensive threat as well as a energy type line. If that happens, then it evens out the minutes of every line which can benefit us huge going into the playoffs.

Lose Hamilton.
Send Lazar down
Keep Stajan in the press box until needed
Sign Glass.

Just my opinion.

Count me among the very disappointed if Janko isn't on the opening night roster.

We should not discount the possibility that employing scrubs like Glass has a downward effect on morale for the prospects trying to make the team from Stockton. As some have said, what more could Jankowski have possibly done? Didn't he score in every game he played in?

Glass threw a few big hits. Whoop de frickin doo. Were those supposed to have motivated the team? They sure didn't respond if so.

I wouldn't be all that disappointed if Jankowski gets sent down to start the season. Where is he going to play on the team? As it looks, probably the 4th line. Why start him now in a spot where he'll get 7 or 8 minutes per game when they can send him down, let him get 18-20 minutes as the top player on the farm team and bring him up when an injury occurs. Let him come up and earn and keep that spot.

Jankowski is top 3 lines or AHL in my opinion. Not sure what he has to do with 4th liners mentioned in here. I'd be more angry if Jankowski was expected to grind it out on the 4th line every night.

Glass, Stajan and Brouwer have nothing to do with Jankowski.

I'd also rather Lazar be the 13th forward over Jankowski.

Jankowski is better than Hamilton and Lazar combined. I'd be very surprised if he gets sent down.

I think Darren Haynes did the math recently and Jankowski would play more on the 4th line for the Flames than he would on the 1st line for the Heat due to the number of games the Heat plays either to start the season or as a whole? It was interesting. I believe it was a tweet so not sure if I can find the link.

Treliving has said that if there's no room for a good prospect to make the team, they'll make room. If they're planning to trade someone, that takes some time to set up.

Glass would be okay on a two-way playing mostly in Stockton or sitting in the press box.
