Uhm. Isn't high gas prices the reason you're getting tax money back? Easy come, easy go for you.... but just easy go for us in Ontario?
To clarify, we aren't wondering why its high, we know and accept it.

The problem I had, and others, is how there can be a price difference of a dollar a litre in various parts of cities. On the whole, I agree with Clarkey that there isn't collusion, but when spikes occur in some places for little reason, questions have to be raised.

I think that without a doubt that there is at least a little collusion. Gas prices rise and fall together at every single pump in the city, Oil companies are reporting record profits (yet again, seems like we talk about this one every year).

Ever wonder where those signs you used to see at Gas stations "1% profit", then they updated it, and put it up to 2%. Oh wait, now they are gone, what do you know. I at least found those a little humerous.

There definately needs to be someone watching. Gasoline is an important part of our Economy and our everyday lives, and Oil companies and their "record profits" should still be allowed to make profit, but wow, tone it down a little guys.

I know that Japan buys their gas on monthly subscription, but for some perspective, gas was 125 yen today (about 20% higher than it was at the beginning of the year) and today it is still 125 yen.

I call collusion. The fact that prices have doubled in most places in NA is incredibly suspicious.

Wait, don't those stickers on the pumps at Shell tell us it's the taxes that make it so expensive?

Must be the taxes...

Well, taxes are a large amount of it... last time I heard... 10c a litre is provincial excise, 9c is federal excise, and 7% of the total price is tacked on as GST.

I put $39 in my car yesterday, about 41L, $2.60 of it was GST.

So, I paid about $7.79 in excise taxes (.19 x 41L) and $2.60 in GST... $10.39 out of my $39 fill up was taxes, or about 27%... could be more, thats just what my math came up with.

Paul Martin was talking tough about going after price gougers. Let's see if he actually does something about it, or if he is merely going to dither like usual.
that will never happen, the government is getting so much off taxes, that statment was empty and only a crowd pleaser
