Well now this is just getting depressing.
Can we all get back to laughing at the Rangers now?

I'd be curious to see how many bought out players sign with a new team at below market value. Obviously that is subjective but is there recent precedents of this occurring?
What is the market value of Girardi?

That's what the Ducks did with Mason Raymond. But that wasn't a success story.

Not recent, but that's how Calgary got Nolan and Bertuzzi.

Brad Richards to Chicago.

It'll happen if the player is going for a cup.

I don't think they will sign for a bargain to a team that isn't a strong contender.

Ribiero was bought out of a 4 year deal after just one season by Arizona.
He then signed a one year deal with Nashville and put up 62 points.

If Girardi would actually be an upgrade for the Flames I think we all as fans need to adjust our expectations. Signing him is just a terrible idea for a team that is supposed to be trending upwards....maybe 4-5 years ago i could see it but another 33 year old one dimensional defender is not what this team needs.

He was just a Michael Stone or Kris Russell type even at his best, a #5/#4 defenseman who seemed to pass the lazy eye test on a team that covered for his flaws, and had some offense to contribute. Then he started slowing down, league just gets faster and more skilled every year, more able to exploit those flaws. We saw it happen to Wideman too, except he was more offensively skewed in his prime.

Not recent, but that's how Calgary got Nolan and Bertuzzi.
 |
Nolan wasn't bought out and was playing with Phoenix for a 1M the year before signing with the Flames.

Bertuzzi was bought out at 4M and signed 2M, even after a decent year in Calgary he got less on the UFA market.

I would say neither of these guys qualify in the slightest.

The only good players to have been bought or waived in the last five years are Halak, Hoffman, Richards, Byron, and Weal. And Richards was a compliance buyout, those don't even count as buyouts.

I think he was always a little overrated to an extent but was in his prime pretty solid in his own and a good shot blocker and under Torts that worked to his advantage. Apparently he lost a step and that's when his game started to hit the skids.

He was terrible in the playoffs vs Ottawa. I wouldn't pick him up unless I was a young team in need of a vet to guide in practice.
