Both are great deals, Brodie is worth more IMO.
Brodie is not elite defensively.

Gostisbehere is legitimately below average defensively though. Healthy scratched multiple games this year because of how bad he was in his own zone. It's easy to look the other way when he's a sophomore making peanuts, but now that he has his contract and the inevitable higher expectations of Flyer fans, he'll need to get his stuff sorted out or they'll quickly turn on him.
To add Gostisbehere doesn't have Giordano and Hamilton scooping up the PP time either. Other than that kid Provorov he's the only option to play 1st team PP in Philly

53% of Gostisbehere's career points have come from the PP as opposed to 27% for Brodie.

Gostisbehere can thank his lucky stars he had little competition for an offensive role on that team and should be doing handstands after getting that contract.

Yes, in one of the most braindead coaching moves, from a "best players on the ice" perspective, of the entire season.

It is a pretty big stretch to call him elite offensively.

It is a monstrous stretch to call him average at best defensively. He is as bad as any defenseman in the NHL in his own end.

Gostisbehere is on the highlight reel on a regular basis, and for that reason a lot of fans think he is something special. But he is terrible in his own end. Terrible. And he gets his points because he gets the #1 PP time.

If he were playing for the Flames, very few if any people on here would be thrilled with this contract.

Huge risk for the Flyers. We'll see how it turns out.
