I don't see how that's an argument for the fact that losing Vey is bad.
Vey is not some experienced veteran who can step in and hold his own. He's played 18 games as injury relief on the 2014 Kings who won the cup without him on the roster for the playoffs. After that spending 86 games with a mediocre Canucks team while playing bottom 6 minutes without contributing much and being dreadful in the dot.
What has he shown that he would be a reliable player to be inserting into a playoff contending team's lineup when necessary? The only thing worth note is the fact that he's been able to score in the AHL.
If you believe that an organization requires depth that's capable of being called up and down without missing a beat, you won't find any disagreements. However Linden Vey is not a player that is worth the concern over losing.

Wish Vey the best. However, in no vey is he irreplaceable. Hamilton and Hathaway are more useful as replacement level players and both look good for long stretches.

I know you like the Jaffrays of the hockey world, but Vey is as replaceable as they get.

Probably. But Flames were remarkably healthy last year so we have little idea how the farm team forwards would fill in on an extended basis. He did seem like was useful in Stockton last year.

Oh lord. So Vey is now a guy who can hold the fort? Yes he's SO proven.

Because the Flames retained his RFA rights by giving him a qualifying offer, he can return to the Flames at any point next season without needing to clear waivers.

Smart decision by Vey who will likely get way more money in the KHL then he would in the AHL. Who knows maybe something will click, he will light it up, and the Flames will have the option to sign him to a one way next year.

Just wanting to bump this to say that Vey is leading the KHL in scoring with 42 points in 31 games (11G-31A). Is it possible that he ever becomes a consistent NHLer? He put up good numbers in the AHL and now in the KHL. Could someone enlighten me on perhaps why he didn't/doesn't do well in the NHL?

Vey's an interesting player. When he has had extended NHL time, his point totals aren't terrible. And his AHL production is consistently good. But he's easily replaceable by young players on ELCs that may have longer-term value to franchises.
I think experiments with people like Cervenka, Shipchoyov, and a few others have shown the KHL to not be a very strong indicator of NHL success. He may make his way back to the NHL, but I doubt it. If I was him I would probably look at playing it out in Switzerland or Germany or something.

Hardest part of playing in the NHL compared to larger ice has to be the decreased decision making time. You have less time and space and a lot of these guy's hands just cant keep up

Vey could get likely as many as 40 points if he played on a scoring line and got some PP time.
But on a contending team, he's nit good enough to play in the top 6, and his defence doesn't translate well enough for a bottom 6 role.
A definite tweaner.

I don't know if signing Linden Vey would help any of that though.

The Flames need to slow the Blues down in the neutral zone and defend the blue line better. Allowing the Blues to attack with this much speed is dangerous.

im just glad that Vey has found a place where he is enjoying success. He still has the craziest off ice distraction story i've ever heard. He's been through a lot and i hope it works out well for him.
