No, but with his added size and strength giving him confidence, it's hoped he can add that part to his game.

Not knocking Jankowski, but most times fans hope a player develops a physical game they end up disappointed. To me physical is a mindset more than a physique. Paul Byron is physical, Joe Colborne is not. I want to see Jankowski use his size to assert himself in traffic, but i don't ever expect him to be a 'physical player' - that's not his game any more than it's Monahan's game.

There is a good chance management knew a rebuild was on the horizon thought. Drafting 3 times in the first round in 2013 gave the fans Monahan as the shiny new toy and Porier and Klimchuck to add to the stable. Gaudreau continued to progress and Bennett came on board. All the while Jankowski slowly improved in the NCAA. Hamilton and Tkachuk joined the organization over the past couple years while Jankowski finished college and had a great rookie season in the minors.

The Flames sit here today with a very impressive young core they got through 3 tough seasons resulting in top 10 picks, a great trade, hitting a homer in the 4th round. Having mainstays like Gio, Brodie, Backlund all improve and become core players.

All of that action let Jankowski fly under the radar and allowed not only the organization but the fans to be patient. I truly think the patience will pay off as Jankowski has become the physical specimen Weisbroad described. We watched him go from 6'2 170 to 6'4 210 in the last 5 years. I think this kid will be a top 3 centre on the team and perhaps more when he hits his prime.

The Flames have had a rookie with at least 34pts the past 4 years. With Jankowski I think we have a 5th
This sounds like a lot of work and planning. couldn't we just have tanked for 11 years, drafted like idiots, brought in a bunch of old players, and through the magic of lottery balls, make the 2nd round?

in all seriousness, the flames have changed their development philosophy and I think we are starting to see a bit of a talent pipeline.

Yup. The only thing we can hope is that they elevate their game to being physical in a playoff series.

I think that was the main knock against Jankowski when he was drafted. I was trying to be nice. Physical for him would be Monahan's game. I admit I haven't seen much of him this year but he seems to be more confident in his size and strength.

That's what I'm thinking. 'Doesn't shy away from contact' is a good goal and from what I've seen he is heading that direction.

I would say Jankowski is a lot more physical. Physical in the sense that he is now able to use his body to protect the puck and win puck battles. Not that I want to necessarily draw a comparison, but Colborne was starting to do this himself quite well - though inconsistently.

One (of the many) things I really love about Jankowski is how he is using his size and reach to play keep away with the puck and seemingly almost go around a defender with it to make a solid play.

Stylewise Jankowski's about as physical as Malkin.
