What did Engelland do to you? Your hate for him is so irrational.
Engelland is guaranteed to get another NHL contract. He might even match his current dollars, but probably not the term.
I'd be shocked if Wideman got an NHL contract next year.

One can't help but wonder what our penalty count would be with widedog in the line up

Really glad I read this, as my gut predicted Calgary to be on the wrong end of the scoring chances tally. That plus the fact that 2 goals were the result of highly unusual brain cramps (Dougie stopping to play when he thought a call should be made, and the worst line change I've seen in a decade) have me much more optimistic about game 2.

good write up...
it was a close game... while i know GT can get emotional, I think folks let that blind the to the good things that the Flames did last night.
I felt that the Flames were right there and that the imbalance of the penalties is what killed it for them because it took them out of the flow...
IF Calgary doesn't give Anaheim more than 3 PP chances, I think they will win... the more time they play 5 on 5 the better it is...
we were a Johnny Hockey puck jam away in the crease from tying the game up on the road...its nuts that some posters keep talking about "the series is done" or that the "Ducks are way better than Calgary"
the facts from last night's game don't say that at all

I would have nominated the Flames pp/special teams for goat of the game despite the ppg. No clear winner for goat between them, Bouma and Hamilton.
I would consider Lazar for a Bouma. Also Kulak for Bartkowski.
In honesty these are all correctable mistakes. Be smarter, win.

Btw, who exactly were the five guys on that line change?
(Not to be overly harsh on them, just curious because I didn't really pay attention to it during the game.)

^It was Versteeg-Bennett-Chiasson and Bangelland.

Brouwer got 18 million dollars and Versteeg got a one way ticket to Europe last summer. One should not take NHL GMs, even smart ones, as infallible.
Engelland is not great, and a contender needs a better 5 than him, but I am more than satisfied with him and his play this year. I wouldn't even be opposed to re-signing him for 1 year, though he can likely get more security elsewhere.

Ducks 3 Flames 2 (Ducks lead series 1-0)
Someone needs to tell me why Brouwer continues to have a guaranteed spot in the lineup. Totally unearned and a passenger again last game.

The discussion in Game Takes threads is so much more rational and reasonable than the idiocy and trolling that is the PGTs.
Wish there mas more of this.

He was last off-season's 'big' acquisition. Look how long it took the Flames to move on from Mason Raymond.

Young team, young coach and we were right there in it. If not for a terrible line change we may very have stolen that game.
Calgary can learn and get better and I expect them to all the way from the coach down. Shouldn't the team getting worried here be Anaheim? They were far from dominant for a team that was supposed to run us over.

Sadly it requires people to read rather than post.
We live in the twitterverse.
Great write up. Something that was overlooked with the loss was how amazing Elliot played. He keeps that up and I daresay this could be our series.
