If Vegas takes Brouwer off our hands, I think the Flames should sign Iginla. It would remind me of when the Pens added Guerin for their first cup run.

I would have liked our chances better against the ducks with iginla than without him.
Please Iggy, not Greaserville.

I want to see Iggy celebrate a goal with Monahan and Gaudreau. That would be an iconic pic in Flames history.

So Iggy's not retiring? Who was the source, Arron Ward?

I would love to see him back, and I fully admit nostalgia is part of the reason. I suspect he will sign with someone for less than $2M for 1 year. And this playoff run should be a good indicator of what the team may still need.
I don't subscribe to the distraction stuff myself.
But I also don't think Brouwer's going to Vegas. Flames would have to kick in something extra for Vegas to take him IMO.

Why the hell would Vegas take Brouwer with how he's played this season? He's not going there via the expansion draft.

I'm taking a guess right now that he'll go to either Edmonton, Montreal or Toronto. Edmonton for the hometown aspect, Montreal or Toronto to play for one of the bigger Canadian markets.

Vegas needs to hit the cap floor, which could rise this year with the WCH revenue. Vegas cant just take young NHLs like Kulak. They also need to fill their roster. I can imagine Brouwer serves as a righty for their new club, as well as some salary that allows them to take on a few ELCs and still hit the cap floor.
Plus Treliving can throw in an incentive. He can throw in a guy like Kulak if Vegas takes Brouwer. I don't think it's a stretch if Vegas takes Brouwer

[QUOTE=NumberNine;6213504]I hate to say it but how much of an asset would Iginla be on the 3rd line RW against the Ducks? He would bring the right mix of toughness, skill, and leadership. We could also use his shot on the PP in a series that will no doubt have the greatest number of penalty calls. And he would be a great mentor for two of our younger guys, Bennett and Lazar, both of who were heating up at the end of the regular season.
This^
It's shameful how some of the fans on this forum were so against bringing this guy back for the stretch run and playoffs, given what you know he's capable of. Distraction would be my only concern but seriously people, he would've been a beast for this team, especially against the ducks.
I can't help but wonder how different would kesler be if Iginla was coasting around out there...
Hopefully Brouwer proves me wrong but right now I'd rather have Iginla

Will Iginla request a TV special to announce where he will take his talents next ala Lebron?

I was against it chiefly because the team was already up against the cap, and if they were going to bring in a $5-million player, it had better be one who's earning every penny of that cap hit. Iginla isn't worth that kind of dough anymore. But if he wants to re-sign here at a suitable price for a third-line forward, I wouldn't mind seeing it happen.

Until he hangs 'em up, I want him to be a Flame. I can't help it.
We will see what Free Agency brings. He could sign with LV for sure.

The question is, did his performance in LA garner more interest? The reason he ended up in LA was because the Kings were essentially the only team who wanted him. His play was pretty good there considering his age. 6G 3A 9P in 19 games (4 of 6 goals were GWG). Hopefully he locks up a deal with a true contender, or comes back for a final stint with the Flames at a fair priced contract (probably bonus laden).

I think he ends up somewhere south of the border, last 4 teams, Pittsburgh, Boston, Colorado, and Los Angeles...and I think the trend will continue.
One more kick at the Can?

I just think it's odd that a 40 year old player held a telephone presser to announce he still wants to play.
I might suggest he learn German or perhaps Russian. Harsh? Perhaps.

Iggy was responding to media availability requests. It's not like he decided to call up all his ol' media pals for an audio conference pow wow.
