I'm real excited for Rittich. Knowing my luck he will be sitting all game or get lit up, but you guys have no idea how enjoyable this goaltender is to watch. Right there with Parsons, Kipper, "Good Ortio", etc as one of those goalies who is just plain entertaining with brisk movement. I'm rooting for him to post a game like Gillies did however I just think my luck is bad as everything I want, the opposite happens.

You didn't want the Flames in the playoffs?
I would also like to see Rittich play but totally understand if they give Elliott the game to stay game sharp.

They should really rest Elliott. He played all but two games of the 'every other night' schedule.
If he gets eight days off, he's not going to forget how to stop pucks. And really, what's the difference between 6 days and 8?
I would've let Gillies play this one as he completely earned another start on Thursday.
But as long as Rittich is here, play him.

I don't think Rittich will play. Gotta get Elliott some game time prior to the start of the playoffs. Would like to see Rasmus get into this game.

Now we're almost casual about this game, and we're debating who we're going to play in the first round.

Two years ago we were ecstatic just to make the playoffs. However, the mood among Flames fans seems rather somber this time. I see three reasons:
1. Still burned by the fact we got swept by the Oilers this year (and let's face it, the Oilers look like the better team right now)
2. We are not the media darlings of Canadian NHL teams. With 5 Canadian teams likely in the playoffs, storylines abound, and so attention of media and casual fans is more dispersed.
3. With a .500 record in our last 10 games we are limping into the playoffs rather than storming in.
I'm as hopeful as the next fan. But I admit that a first round match up against Chicago, Anaheim, and even Edmonton, does not give me huge feelings of optimism.

I'm starting Elliott tonight if i'm GG. Potentially 9 days off if we start game 1 on Thursday is a long time.
Julien started Price yesterday even though they have the division locked up.

I am more optimistic than you. The playoffs are a different season and I can't wait to see what the young players can bring. Hopefully the playoff experience from 2 years ago is meaningful.
I think the fan reaction to making the playoffs is somewhat muted since ultimately making the playoffs is not a difficult accomplishment, with more than half the league being in. You see teams like Edmonton and likely Toronto make huge leaps in one year so going over the top celebrating a 7 or 8 seed is probably not necessary.

He hates Treliving so there is a chance he wanted the Flames to miss so they considered making a change

It's about time.
I'd like to see this lineup tonight:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Bennett - Chiasson
Lazar - Hamilton - Brouwer
Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Andersson
Bartkowski - Engelland
Rittich
Engelland can be swapped out for Wideman.
