In truth, the only reason I posted that was to see it get censored. Little disappointed it didn't. Slow day at work......

Woodpeckers?
I have one that comes by regularly and hammers away at the utility pole in the back alley. The dumb thing hammers on the metal things attached to the poke though, not the wooden pole itself.

A little woodpecker trivia for ya... their tongues are up to 4 inches long so they can nab those little bugs they are after.

I have one that bashes the rain vent on my fireplace. Sounds like a machine gun in my living room

I had that same issue. You need to find a way to dull the sounds somehow and they will leave it alone. For mine I mounted a rubber pad onto several strong magnets and put that on the stack.
The reason they choose venting is because it's up high and it's a mating call for them. Take the noise away from woody woodpecker and woody will go away.

I use to work with someone who had woodpeckers drilling into his stucco. He tried a lot of things included spending a couple hundred dollars on an audible bird deterrent device. I don't think anything worked. I'm pretty sure he bought a pellet gun and was going to kill the birds when his family was out of the house. Not sure if he did it or not though.

Thanks everyone. This went exactly as I expected. Experienced advice, advising me of the law, an education on the species, telling me to move, etc.
A little disappointed that no one mentioned fire, but I guess that is for the spider thread only.
What is strange is the house has been around since 1982 and never had them attack it. That is why I think it is a lone wolf-######. Maybe have to consider having the hose going and water cannon the sucker or throw rocks.
At any rate I will be up there later today putting mesh over the hole, my neighbor just sent me a vid of that mo fugger at the same hole while we are at work.

They do that every year to out chimney as well. I learned that if I turn the fireplace on, the sudden heat spooks them. I loved it and felt victorious until the jerk attacked the side of my house instead.

I'm kinda disappointed no one has suggestion a shotgun. Cause that's what they are for and all. Even has a shell meant especially for birds. Good ol birdshot.

We've got Hairy, Downy and Pileated Woodpeckers at our place. Haven't seen any Flickers. We've never had a problem with them. They go after the suet and a couple trees, but never anything on the house or deck.

Pileated? Cool, where is that? They are quite rare and shy. I have only seen one in my life near Millarville. Really big birds.

We have three of them that frequent our feeders. We're on an acreage just west of Edmonton.

I once came upon a huge Pileated out hunting. I heard him from several hundred yards away and thought it was two deer fighting because it was so loud. When I snuck up on him it was incredible to watch him hammer the old standing log he was working on. Super loud and you could see the power and force vibrate the whole tree. Pretty neat day in the bush.

Hey, we may be neighbours. We should share a beer. By share I don't actually mean share.
