I think they got it right in the Bartkowski/Holzer fight, hit was clean and then Bartkowski jumped him. We deserve to be short handed there.
I don't think they really even got it wrong with the Kesler/Frolik scrum. Seemed like two players going at it, of course Kesler vs non-fighter, but Engelland was third guy in and deserved his penalties for sure.
The one they really got wrong was kicking Ferland out of the game. Holzer was third man in and should have gotten the extra penalties. He should have gotten an instigator/third man in penalty but likely didn't because of how badly he lost the fight. Giving Ferland 14 minutes there and Holzer 2 is a total joke.

Maybe it's time for Hunter Smith and Keegan Kanzig to make an appearance. Too bad they are limited on recalls. I would have had one of them or both on the bench last night and sent messages all night.
Limited recall? From what I heard, Flames had 4 from the trade deadline to the end of the regular season. Flames used one recall when Andersson wasn't sent down when Stone and Hamilton returned. The playoffs aren't subject to the rule. Can someone shed some light on my understanding?

So they each hack each other, one guy drops his gloves and throws punches while the other guy does not. How does Frolik come out with the same? Kesler should have at least had a rough on top, probably 4 mins would be more accurate.

I thought it was admirable that Captain Courage chose to attempt to pick fights with Sean Monahan and Michael Frolik, yet needed to be rescued from Ferland.
This is exactly why excitement for the playoffs has been tempered. Between the 50 slashes a game on Johnny that hardly ever get to called, to BS like this and the Ferland penalties last night, the Flames will probably be fighting an uphill battle the whole time.
I was actually thinking of starting a website that focuses on NHL officiating and the blown calls every night around the NHL. My initial thought was maybe it would capture the eyes of the NHL and they might finally do something. My next thought was the realization that they would just have the website shut down instead.
Indeed, you'd either get a huge envelope hand delivered from the NHL's lawyers, or Bettman sends Nicky, Vinnie and Tony to your back door in the middle of the night.
Don't listen to the Ducks feed on the Holzer Bartkowski fight, it has some gems.
Kesler suckered by Engelland.
Kesler was slashed by Frolik. No mention of the first slash by Kesler.
Frolik's gloves are tied on, not coming off.
"Engelland pounding away on Kesler"...well one punch to the helmet.
NHL officials are the worst of any professional sport. Compound that with the Wideman effect and we've got ourselves a bigger problem than most NHL teams.
I am the only one but I hope we get the ducks in round 1. If you can't get amped up for that game you shouldn't be in the line up. For the first time since I can remember, it wasnt about the flames being pushed around or even holding their own. They were just as much involved in the rough style as the ducks and overmatched the ducks in certain situations.
Go into the playoffs with Ferland, Brouwer remembering how big he is, Engeland, Tkachuk, Bouma remembering his role, the nasty version of Bennett, a chippy and big Chaisson and then having Frolik, Backlund, Johny and Monny as some elite talent.
Even Dougie and Gio have shown some bite as of late and will look for a guy with their head down if we are playing the ducks.
If Bouma and Brouwer can't figure out what type of game it's going to be and their role, Hathaway, Freddie and Lazar will. Brouwer doesn't even need to be scoring to be effective. It is no coincidence when he was playing the body he started his little point streak.

If we play Anaheim game 1 we write that one off and dress a goon squad. Hurt as many as we can for the rest of the series. Give them their own medicine. Don't retaliate. Be the one making the first slash.

Kanzig starts at centre, Rittich in the pipes.
