Jewish ancestry is typically passed down maternally, but in most Western countries, family names are passed down paternally, therefore many Jewish people have family names that are not Semitic in origin.

Not sure of his religion, but Justin Abdelkader (Abdul Qadir) is of Jordanian heritage.

This snippet from his Wikipedia page is hilarious.
When he was 17 years old, Toronto Sun writer Steve Simmons, an expert on Jews in hockey, predicted that he “might be better than all” the previous Jewish ice hockey players (which included the then-current Jewish NHL players centre Michael Cammalleri, right winger Mike Brown, left winger Eric Nystrom, and centre Jeff Halpern).[6]
Do you need a degree for that ?

There are probably anywhere from 200,000-500,000 black Jews in the World. In America, it was estimated that the population of Black Jews is anywhere from 20,000 to 200,000 people. Lenny Kravitz is an example.
In Africa, there was a tribe of mainly Ethiopian Jews in Africa, who were airlifted to Israel, as part of the "right to return" laws, and the ongoing civil war in the 80s. It's estimated there are 140,000 Black Jews in Israel. There are also small communities of Indian and Chinese Jews now living predominantly in Israel and North America.
The estimated World Jewish Population is approximately 14,000,000. The five countries with the largest Jewish populations:
1. Israel 6,100,000
2. United States 5,700,000
3. France 475,000
4. Canada 385,300
5. United Kingdom 290,000
The 1990's saw a mass exodus of Jews from the former Soviet Union. Nearly 2,000,000 Jews emigrated to Israel, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and of all places, Germany. Countries with Jewish communities in decline, include Russia, France, Argentina, Ukraine, and Hungary.
The cities with the largest Jewish population:
1. Tel Aviv, Israel 3,173,000
2. New York City, USA 2,100,000
3. Jerusalem, Israel 875,000
4. Haifa, Israel 690,000
5. Los Angeles 689,000
The largest Jewish communities in Canada:
1. Toronto 185,000
2. Montreal 95,000
3. Vancouver 25,000
4. Winnipeg 15,000
5. Ottawa 13,500
6. Calgary 8,000
7. Edmonton 5,000
8. Hamilton 5,000
Until the 1960's Montreal was the largest Jewish community. However, due to anti-Semitism (mainly the FLQ targeting Jewish neighbourhoods), and the new laws (Bill 101), caused a mass exodus of Jews to Toronto, along with many Anglophones, Italians, and Greeks.

I am a Flames fan. Just more of a fairweather fan. I like to see all Canadian teams do good.
