If the Flames do beat the Ducks, it will remind of '04 when we beat Detroit. I had no hope of them winning that series, but said IF they did, they're going to the cup finals. If the Flames do play the Ducks and win, I'm not even joking when I say we have a real shot at the cup.
But, the fact is, no matter how good some teams are in the regular season, some teams just don't match up well at all.
-Pittsburgh always beat Washington, no matter if the Caps win the President Trophy
-Leafs always beat the Sens, even though Sens are higher in the standings
-Habs have the Bruins number most of the time
-Preds have never beaten Sharks in the playoffs
As cool as it would be for the Flames to beat the Ducks, I would honestly take my chances with literally every other team in the West instead of the Ducks.

Who's going to beat the Ducks then? Edmonton or San Jose?
The Flames are going to have to beat the Ducks eventually may as well get it over with!

I don't think the Flames will stand a chance against an experienced playoff team like Chicago and San Jose, also Anaheim is the Flames' achilles. So none of these 3 teams will match up well.
They do stand a good chance with Minnesota or Edmonton though.

I feel like a lot of people are taking a very deep Minnesota lightly. Yeah, we swept the season series with them, but playoff hockey is a different beast, and Minnesota is built for a deep run.
I would rather see us get Edmonton or San Jose.

Logical or not, there's just a stigma with Chicago and Anaheim that scare the you know what out of me.
San Jose I just have confidence in us playing against for whatever reason.
Edmonton, although they killed us this year, scare me the least.

I always find the refs prefer original 6 teams, so I'd rather have nothing to do with Chicago.
Edmonton, no better way for regular season redemption.
*also, wasn't there already a thread on this?

I'd prefer if they played any of the oiler teams from the past 10 years...

I'm torn on the Oilers. On one hand, they had our number this year. On the other, I think the Flames are deeper and have far better defense. I think the Flames are better built for playoff hockey than Edmonton. While the thought of beating them makes me happy, the thought of losing to them makes me equally terrified.

Absolutely. The Wild are so hungry for playoff success they could be a real beast. Even if you beat them, they're not going down easy.
Oilers on the other hand are the perfect 1st round fodder. Happy to be in the playoffs, very little playoff experience and poor depth. That said, they probably want to play us. We're the one team guaranteed to get them really fired up.

When was the last BOA playoff series? 1991?!?
There's no question in my mind. Oilers.

I haven't really followed the Ducks this season so I'm not sure who would match up well against them. But I'd rather another team take their chances on them.
Upsets happen all the time in the playoffs. I supposed it could be us. But I'd rather someone else try them out. As epic as a BOA would be and that's what most want, I have a sickening feeling we are going to face Anaheim on the road to start the playoffs.

I agree that Chicago is scary because their core knows how to win in the playoffs. However, the one thing I do like about playing Chicago in round 1 is that they're not a tough team. The Flames may be able to beat the **** out of them. The Hawks teams that had won cups had guys like Byfuglien, Brouwer, Eager, Bickell, Ladd, and Shaw.

Don't let yourself get fooled into thinking that's a reason you would like to face the Hawks. They know playoff hockey better than any team and there is very little chance of the Flames taking them past 5 or 6 games.

Solid goalies and teams at the start of a hot streak are the most dangerous in my opinion, so I'd want to avoid SJ and Chicago. I'm actually comfortable with any other team in the west facing the Flames. Gibson, Allen and Rinne haven't been great, Talbot's slipping and Dubnyk has looked a lot more average too.

We can beat Chicago. And when we do, there will be some serious momentum going on. I just want the playoffs to get going, so bring on anyone!

Make it Tkachuk's mission to either take him out physically at every opportunity, or get in his head with dip#### antics. Cash in when the Oilers lash out in attempt to defend their golden child. No need to give any time or space to a diving whiner. Edmonton fans will cry but it's the BoA, so buck up.
