Yeah but the guy I quoted made it sound like you guys have been consistent.
Looking at your record: November below .500, really good December, January below .500, amazing February.
I think it is reasonable to say you have been a streaky team and if the Flames continue this in March you have a better idea that this could be the real Flames.

Um, no it wasn't.
October: 4-5-1
November: 7-8-1 (6-3-1 after November 15)
December: 9-4-0
January: 5-7-1
February: 9-2-1
March: 1-0-0 (so far)
30-16-3 since November 15.
For comparison's sake:
Edmonton Oilers 2016-17 season:
October: 7-2-0
November: 5-8-2
December: 7-2-5
January: 9-4-1
February: 6-6-0
March: 0-0-0
Every team has good and bad months

I'm not sure any team who wins 7 in a row isn't on a streak.
Since getting their feet under themselves at the start of the season, meaning in the nearly 50 games since then, the Flames are average nearly 1.3 points per game. This is an extended period of above average results. No, not consistent like the true top teams, but overall nearly as good a record.

I find it very interesting that the Oilers have been 27-20-7. They've lost as many games as they've won. 61 points which over a 82 game span would be 92 points.
Compared to the Flames 31-21-3 for 65 points which over a 82 game schedule would be 97 point pace.
In terms of rankings
Calgary
Ottawa
Edmonton
Montreal
Jets
Vancouver

Oilers beat the Flames in the first 2 games of the year - after Johnny and Monahan missed their entire camps and Elliott #### the bed in those games. Since then:
CAL.: 35-24-4 74 points
EDM: 32-22-8 72 points
Never mind the first 15 games, the Flames have been the better team since Oct 14th.
To rank the Oilers that much higher, when they haven't been as good for the past 4 and 1/2 months, is wishful thinking.

Basically. Minus 4 really, really bad games.
Overall they've been very good since mid November. At times average. But we tend to pick apart every little negative around here.
It's the putrid start that takes away from the positives of this season for most part. A couple times things looked bleak, but those cold streaks were fairly short lived. If we played our crappy hockey in December and got a couple wins out of the Oilers but with the same record now, we'd be calling this a strong season.
The team was extremely hot and cold in the first half and it took fans on a rollercoaster as we flipped from throwing in the towel on the season, to calling the team for real. We should've not gotten too high or too low in the inevitable growing pains of a new system.

ranking the teams in games that end in regulation (5on5) in my mind gives the best rankings of team quality going into playoffs imo.
Montreal/Ottawa +5 over .500
Edmonton +2
Calgary -2
Winnipeg/Vancouver/Toronto round up the bottom.

Please don't flame me, I'm trying to be really objective about this. Superstars put certain teams at the top of this list.
Montreal
Edmonton
Calgary
Ottawa
Toronto
Winnipeg
Vancouver
