He didn't reject any trades. The previous trades were conditional on him signing an extension.
The caps do have some cap space for next season with Oshie, Alzner, Williams, and Winnik off the books but they also have to replace those guys too.

Teams rejected the moves without the extension. Shanty doesn't have a NTC but most teams wanted him to sign to make a move. Caps are probably fine with the rental only.

Funny thing is... he and Eklund were the first two people to break this. Commodore said that Shattenkirk was traded, and Eklund was the first to say where to. They beat Friedman and Rutherford by 2 and 7 minutes.
It was bound to happen to Eklund sometime.

1st+d prospect (siegenthaler or bowey)+nate schmidt
might be an overpay but it keeps him from being traded to one of your opponents
