Hes been nothing but a loyal player, hes played some great hockey for us.
Hes also played some pretty bad hockey for us but you have to take the good with the bad.
His contract and his NMC and his foot-speed and his getting old arent really his fault, and hes done what he brought here to do, and that is help shepherd this team through a chunk of its rebuild and bring his skills and experience to help in doing that.
His abilities are diminishing and our rebuild is nearing its end, the timing, while maybe a season or so too long, is what it is.

Always yapping at the refs always always always . He gets hit so often because he's slow and makes bad decisions and I've never seen a more entitled player.
We've had guys like Bertuzzi and Marchment play here with histories that were dark and they never rubbed me the way Wideman has.
Todd And Brian worked hard when they were here and never made excuses.

Actually I'm surprised they haven't waived him yet.

They can't.

You are seeing what you want to see. Wideman rarely complains to the refs. He doesn't get hit that often. His between period interviews are intelligent, compared to some of the standard stuff players spout. Ive never once heard him say he or the Flames were being treated unfairly. He's never complained when he was benched.
As for this comment, I read it as being honest, but not bitter.

I like what I hear about Wideman the person - the story about how he bought that family a vacation at the Flames auction this year was awesome.
Wideman the player? Sorry, time to go, and good luck wherever you end up (unless it's the Canucks/Oilers)

I don't get the "entitled" comment, why do you think that?

Without JBo and Butler, Wideman is the main whipping boy and has been the main focus of frustration for many of us. It's too bad he doesn't use the great shot that he possess and he let his greatest weakness overshadow the biggest asset he has. Once he leaves, who replaces him?

He negotiated his NMC. Might have been dumb to give it, but certainly wasn't dumb for him to take it. If he sees the writing on the wall and is considering waiving it, that is the pro thing to do. The Henderson hit was terrible, and he paid a price. I don't see the victim playing that you are.
|
Agreed. He is basically saying if they don't want me here, I will take a move.
He has the right to veto any trade, but he is stating, publicly, he will listen.
Kind of the opposite of what Sundin did years ago to the Leafs, no?
And he really is a good guy. Does all the community events, and not just as a token, but goes out of his way to chat with people, and be a part of the community.
True, he is not as fleet of foot as he needs to be, and this seems to have happened very quickly, but he did his best for us, and still does.
I could actually see the Penguins taking a flyer on him if their injuries on D are long term.

When he put up 56 points with Calgary a couple years back, that was when he was the best. I've always been hoping he'd get back to that form. I actually think he's now underrated considering how much hate he gets. If the rumours are true that there's atleast one other team interested in him, I'm not far from the truth either.

I don't hate him like some do. He's a cool guy and has been a good leader during the rebuild. I just want what's best for the team, and at this point sadly that means him not being in the top 6.
I hope he can find someone who can accept his contract and he can have a bit of a resurgence. He's got some good offensive instincts. It's just that for some reason he's lost them during the past 2 seasons. Hopefully he can get a fresh start somewhere else.

Wideman came up huge in 2015 when Giordano and Brodie went down. He was a big reason the Flames made the playoffs that year, and it was a very exciting season for me. I'll always have a little love for Wideman for that.
I also feel for the guy about the ref thing.

He has already been replaced...at least for now.
Stone coming to Cgy is all about replacing the Wide dog.
Doesn't mean he is done for good here, particularly of he isnt dealt. Injuries and circumstances can change everything in a hurry.

For what he was brought in for, Wideman served his purpose. Yeah he hit a ref, stupid move, but he's been a decent pickup since his signing. His tenure here needs to come to an end. The same way I feel with Stajan.

I would be fairly shocked if Wideman is still on the Flames after the deadline. I think the Flames will get at least a 5th round pick for him.

I guess the only problem I have with Wideman, other than his poor play this season, is how his story kept changing with regards to checking the linesman. First, he was just heading to the bench and then he had a concussion. If he just owned up to it, I would've respected him a lot more. Other than that, I wish him no ill will, just wish him off the team.

If only he had a 4 year deal like Hudler.
Hudler and Wideman signed the same offseason and for the most part the Flames got good value from Hudler. One less year on the Wideman deal and the deal would have been ok. Imagine Hudler for one more year... he fell off the cliff last season and is not doing much better this year.

You have played the victim for about 3 years now and were doing it before you hit the ref in a blind rage. Don't tell me it wasn't deliberate. Your time has come so keep your yapper shut and go with your tail tucked you are a disgrace to this flames fan.
My opinion only.

He wasn't referring to a current situation, but rather a hypothetical.
Jeez, people.
