When I say passport of convenience, I just mean I have concerns with people actively choosing to living abroad, when so many people in this world would bend over backwards to live in a country like Canada but can't for a variety of reasons. For the record I have been an ex-pat myself too, I lived in New Zealand for a while and spent much time in Japan.
Sure, it's a shallow way of thinking, but the more I think about it, the more I feel that if a Canadian citizen is willingly living elsewhere - permanently - the government should be able to bump up immigration into Canada in equal numbers - basically to counter-balance emigration.

I honestly do not know what point you are trying to make, however believe you would be in support of Canadians having to renounce their citizenship if they receive citizenship elsewhere.
There is nothing wrong with this viewpoint and many countries have those laws however I think it is great Canada allows dual citizens as it gives ex-pats the opportunity to move back to Canada one day. If the economy in Calgary improves and I could find as good a job there as here I would strongly consider a move back to Canada.
Also, Canada allows the children of Canadian born ex-pats to receive Canadian citizenship at birth. My Australian born daughter was born a dual citizen and I am currently filling out her passport application. It makes me very happy she has the opportunity to move to Canada for school or work one day if she so chooses.
