Including tonight's game, the Flames have 29 games left and they have 55 points so far. 40 points in 29 games would make me feel good about the Flames chances at the playoffs, but a 20-9-0 or 19-8-2 record doesn't seem likely from this squad right now. With that in mind, I found an interesting article on the StarTribune about teams with the lowest point totals in the West making the playoffs:

Last year, Minnesota clinched with 87 points, with one game remaining. The West is still tight and the two teams currently in the wild card spots - L.A. and St. Louis - have had their issues. St. Louis' goal tending and coaching situation is hurting them and L.A. seems to be struggling a bit overall. Anze Kopitar in particular only has 6 goals in 45 games.
The Flames can still make it, but the margin for error looks really, small. Maybe 16-9-4 is doable, and 91 points squeaks you in. If it is, the Flames need to win every chance they get, starting tonight.
Call me an optimist: 4-2 Flames, Engelland with goals in back-to-back games.
Go Flames Go!
