I'm trying to come up with a place too. My inlaws live in Osoyoos, so I would like something different this year. Can't afford the US, and I shutter to think how busy the National Parks will be from May to September.

Poor privileged me can't figure out what to do not having the means to drop $1000 a day.

One of our more enjoyable summer vacations was a 3 week road trip along the Oregon coast in 2013. We picked a few State campgrounds (Ft. Stevens, South Beach, and Harris Beach). The surrounding areas had a lot of activities that were good for the family, and even if you just wanted to hang out at the beach and watch the waves crash you could just do that. The costs weren't too bad, considering one restaurant meal could fill you up for the entire day. We took the Pacific Coast highway all the way down to California, and then turned around and took I-5 all the way back. We also used the Yurts at the campgrounds, easy to get set up in, and comfortable so we just had to bring our sleeping bags. Book early if you want a Yurt.

National parks once you are out of day trip range shouldn't be bad. The "free" thing will make Banff stupid on weekends but mid week Jasper won't likely change much.

I've mentioned it before, we took a flyer on going to Lake Winnipeg last summer and had a ball. Kids were 12 & 15, so easier to take on admittedly long drive. Renting a place in Gimli was way cheaper than the Okanagan. Lots of cool beaches, weather gets hot, things to do in Winnipeg when the weather was blah. We looked at it as an opportunity to see a part of Canada we hadn't explored before.

Scotch Creek on the north side of Shuswap lake has nice and affordable cabins. Shuswap Lake Provincial Park is right there, and it's regarded as one of the nicest campgrounds in B.C.. It has a great beach that's open to the public.

It's totally up there on my list of great BC campgrounds as well. I've just had a hell of a time getting some decent dates reserved in the summer in the past!

Easily my favorite place to vacation, beautiful drive and a great golf course. The water is warm and often you get some great weather. My family has been going out there every summer for 30 years and love it so much so that my uncle moved out there and lives there pretty much year round.
