Regina was a scheduled stop for that flight, was it not? Not sure why you are saying you were made to go there like the airline sprung it at the last second?

Also, wasn't it a 1.5 hour delay in Calgary?

"Care and control over .08" is not an actual thing according the Canadian Aviation Regulations, and I'm somewhat annoyed that Calgary Police did not further clarify that they don't exactly know what the're doing and people in various comments sections are freaking out.

You cannot operate an aircraft:
(a) within eight hours after consuming an alcoholic beverage;
(b) while under the influence of alcohol; or
(c) while using any drug that impairs the person's faculties to the extent that the safety
of the aircraft or of persons on board the aircraft is endangered in any way.

Calgary Police likely do not have a copy of CARS with them so it's understandable, I suppose. Transport Canada will straighten it all out.

Agree with what you're saying but is that the job of the Calgary police to clarify or SunWing?

Yeah it's somewhat the job of CPS' media person who released the presser to clarify but at the end of the day it's really not a big deal. People are calling for his head, and (for once in Canada) the law is more restrictive than people have been led to believe, so no real harm done. Again, I'm not even sure CPS is allowed to directly charge people under the Aeronautics Act though I believe they did for some drone related thing. My understanding is that he blew somewhere in the vicinity of 0.25 (and that was 2 hours after CPS were called to the gate ) so they used .08 as a frame of reference but again a lot of people are understandably concerned because they've been led to believe that you are somehow permitted to fly a commercial aircraft as long as you're below .08

Sunwing's policy I'm pretty sure is nothing 12 hours prior; like a lot of airlines their personal policy is more restrictive than the Aeronautics Act. They'll be extremely careful with what they say because there was already tension in the industry about their hiring of so many foreign pilots.

Well I mean the CPS isn't risking losing business over this so I'd say it should be the job if sunwing to make their customers feel better about flying with them.

Well yeah Sunwing has to do damage control all the time anyway cause they suck and strand people, but I was thinking more generally that people seem to be under the impression that pilots of all airlines are subject to the same .08 as drivers.

That's the official rules, but some airlines extend those hours for their own staff. WJ, for example, has an 11 hour "bottle to throttle" rule.
