As to the reason for this thread (and not the moronic blaming of the year on the calendar) I just watched Keanu the other night and the George Michael subplot was hilarious. Wham! was a bit before my time but the gas fight scene in Zoolander wouldn't be the same without them.
RIP George.
I'm just watching this right now, and I was just thinking how weird it is.
I loved listening to George Michael's music back in the day. His fight with Sony, and his protest by not appearing in his music videos, really turned out some memorable stuff.
It seems as though many of the deaths are premature. Michaels didn't die of old age. Similarly Prince was 57.
It's probably a combination of what your are stating but also bad luck.
57 being an outlier now probably speaks more to how much better people take care of themselves. Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, and Johnny Depp are all currently older than Wilfred Brimly was when he filmed Cocoon.
Wow people are ever calluse from the safe confines behind their computer screens. Jim Morrison, an alcoholic drug abuser died premature in a time when numerous celebrities died from either or both causes? Prince died from a drug overdose as did Heath Ledger. They are all tragic deaths to people gone far to soon but to then blame Carrie Fisher's past for her current state as a "meh" response is just utterly cold and inhumane, especially on Christmas.
*callous.
I'm not blaming it, I'm saying it's not a surprise, because *gasp* the past comes around to play a part in the present. I'm not going to be shocked if my liver fails at the age of 60 because I drank when I was 30.
It's nothing to do with being safe behind the confines of a computer screen, anyone who knows me would tell you my opinion stands in person.
You're completely fine with every example except Carrie Fisher? That's what went too far? It's pretty well established that cocaine isn't exactly conducive to the heart's function.
And to the 'meh', 'cold' or 'inhumane' response; the day on the calendar matters? It wouldn't matter if it's the middle of July, I didn't know any of those people. My sentiment would be "meh" any time of year.
The 2016 comments are starting to become a pet peeve of mine. Almost like "##### cancer", it adds nothing to anything, but just sounds cool, so it's rinsed and repeated. "##### off 2016" will forever be as annoying as many office buzz phrases of years passed.

Dick Van Dyke just turned 91 and Kirk Douglas 100. ### YOU 2016!!!!!
Faith was the first album I ever bought...as an 8 year old. Looking back on it now, there are definitely some lyrics on that album that I was not prepared for. Where were my parents?
RIP George. Still my favorite male voice ever. The guy could sing literally anything you wanted him to.

No kidding? I'm having a hard time with that one. Brimley seemed so old in that movie.
* yup I just looked it up. He was 49 when he made that movie. Unreal.

at least 8 year old Cali's parents never had to have that talk with him...you know the one about how sex is natural, sex is fun, sex is best when it's one on one.
