Wills & Hmmmmillions both saying Elliot in the starters net. Wish him the best, you know he's capable of getting it done.

After a couple of less than stellar performances and a heavier work load than what he's likely grown accustomed to, it's time for Johnson to get a rest. And if Elliott shines tonight, he's rested enough to get starts on back to back nights. Johnson has played a pivotal role in turning the season around, but count me as a member of the camp that thinks this team will need Elliott to be the Elliott of last year, and not a shell of his former self, in order to make the playoffs. Let that rejuvenation process start tonight!

I'm not sure what level of play to expect from Wotherspoon, but I've thought Kevin has really struggled the last few games, so I would love to see if someone else can step in and take that spot from him.

Tonight is an absolute must win if they want to keep pace and stay in the mix. No excuse to lose a game like this when you're desperate for points. I think the good Flames show up tonight.

Would rather see Ferland on the top line and Chaisson/Bouma swapping in and out on the 4th line.

Still think the biggest roster issue for the team is getting Brodie back to the right side without breaking up Hamilton and Giordano.
Not sure how that gets done, but it's key.
Kulak or Jokipappa? Wotherspoon? Can either Engelland or Wideman play the left side?

Yeah why not try Wotherspoon Brodie and do infrequent use of Wideman and Engelland?

I tend to agree but Gulutzan seems to be very bullish on this one. I suppose that it makes sense in theory to have a left-handed defenceman playing the left side but at some point Gulutzan may have to accept the fact that it just isn't working.

Brodie's too important an asset to waste this way.

There is no reason to start Elliott in back to backs, even if he plays well tonight. If you can get Elliott going that is great, but with the way Johnson has played this season there is no reason to make Elliott start two in a row and possibly lose to the Sharks due to fatigue. Back to the game, these are the games a team that has ambitions for the playoffs have to win. When the easy 2 points are there you have to bag them.

Elliott will start tomorrow if he plays well tonight. Gulutzan is on record as saying he prefers to let a winning goalie play both in back-to-back scenarios.
Elliott did it earlier this season with wins in Chicago and STL in 2 nights.

The issue is not that Brodie is playing the natural left side, it is that he is paired with a terrible partner. He(Wideman) really drags down Brodie as he knows he can not take 85% of the risks he used to take while playing with Gio.
I can not wait till Wideman is off the books and we can get a mobile defenceman with some semblance of hockey IQ and ability to skate.

Wideman isn't great but this notion that he's dragging Brodie down is so wrong. Brodie has been dragging down every defensive partner he's been paired with this year and that includes Hamilton, Gio, Wideman.
He just needs to play better. Wideman isn't making him turn the puck over multiples times a game or try the Hartley stretch pass mutilple times a game and have it picked off.
With what he's dealing with off the ice it's not a shocker he's been struggling but that's not because of Wideman.

It'd be wonderful if Brodie was forced to take less risks. He's been a turnover machine this year and it's cost the team goals, or at the very least, momentum in games. Most are just poor decisions too. It's like his head isn't in the game (which is understandable if you know his situation with this girlfriend). He's always taken risks, but most of the time they've paid off, and when they haven't, Gio has been there to cover for him.
Now that Wideman's his partner, he needs to simplify and use his natural talents more often. That means skating, using his speed to exit the zone. When he needs to he can stick handle more to avoid the forecheck. He used to be able to do this regularly, but this year he holds on to the puck too long and the forechecker forces a turnover.
As much as I dislike Wideman, he hasn't really been that bad for a while now. He's still a liability in terms of footspeed, but other than that he's been ok.
Sad to say, but Brodie has been the problem on that pairing, for me anyways.
