I swore I passed by him a number of years ago while he was still playing in the ice cream aisle at the Sobeys in Bridlewood. I wasn't sure so didn't really go out of my way, or say anything other than nod at him and he returned that nod. A friend called me crazy saying "do you really think Kipper does his own shopping, and ice cream, in Bridlewood, go on." I figured, yeah he's probably right then someone else told him it likely was him. His kid used to do karate at the karate place attached to the Sobeys strip mall and he was likely getting an after karate treat for him.
My close encounter with Kipper and I wasn't even certain it was him.

I'm guessing Kipper is back in Finland these days? I'm wondering if/when the Flames will bring him back to honor him (Forever a Flame or otherwise) -- I say "if" because I wouldn't be surprised if Kipper declined to attend.
P.S. We know everyone hates Forever a Flame so please don't derail the thread. << ducks >>
Congrats Kipper! Best goalie to play for the flames. Too bad he couldn't have got that big trophy with us, it would have been the topping on the cake for a great career, and well deserved for getting us to the playoffs all through the years.
Next his jersey should be hung with pride in the Saddledome!
Still my favorite Flame. I loved his 'being awesome is just part of the job' attitude. He covered up a lot of this team's deficiencies at the time, and at his prime he made every skater a better player (by giving the confidence and covering their mistakes).
I wish he would replace the radio and TV play by play guys; it would be awesome to just hear the natural game with an occasional (2-3 times per game), 'Yeah, that was a nice play.'
