He doesn't "deserve" anything. He signed for 3 years to a garbage Avs team. Yes, some will say he signed when the Avs were somewhat good but everyone saw it wasn't sustainable and he could have signed a 1 year deal with them and took it one year at a time instead of commiting for the money. At the time Iginla signed his current deal there was good reason to think that the Avalanche would have been competitive by now.

Yes, and he could have signed a one year deal. He chose to sign for 3 years so no he doesn't deserve better.

No they didn't, they had a good season but finished second in the West. And they were a terrible team before that season, nobody was expecting them to be a contender.
