"Outlived" means that he lived on after they died. I had to quickly google Jimmy Carter to see if I'd somehow missed his passing when I was halfway though your post.

The celebrations of Cuban refugees in Little Havana this morning are poignant reminders of how many lives were ruined by Castro.

Let's not forget that he was also reponsible for allowing nuclear weapons into Cuba that alomost resulted in nuclear war and WW3.

Flags will be running half-mast at Alberta legislature and Parliament building in Ottawa...

Rachel and Justin will simultaneously introduce private member bills to change that. Little flags will be displayed half-mast in front of each NDP MLA and Liberal MP in silent protest.

I knew I could count on Justin to say the right things! Did he have a chance to do a selfie with Fidel?

I don't believe that history will look favorably on Castro as he will ultimately be linked to the murder of nearly 100,000 people when all is said and done.

That being said, there are obviously many in Cuba who saw him as their saviour for decades, and as many who saw him as the tyrannical enemy of their people.

He overthrew a self absorbed dictator only to become one himself and littered the streets with bodies along the way. He really should have faced a tribunal of some sort for his actions, but when you are self declared King and if anyone opposes you they get jailed or executed...well you get to have a nice long run of oppression.

Yet this guy is a close personal friend of the Trudeaus....make of that what you like.

Yeah I know. That's what blows me away about the Trudeau family bromance. And I sincerely wish he would not speak for "all Canadians" when sucking up to ruthless dictators.

On another note, looks like 639 might be the magic number for the CIA. Finally got him with the old age pill.

Yup....Trudeau can say "on behalf of all Canadians" all he likes.

Truth is though that it's likely a very small % that feel what Trudeau feels about Castro.

I know he isn't talking for me.

Gross and disgusting.

Then again Pierre had a guy bromance with Mao who murdered millions so its clear that his son is following in his path.

There's no way that flags should be at half mast for a monster who brutalized people and destroyed lives.

Hopefully more of these type of leaders follow Castro off of this mortal coil.

It is interesting to compare and contrast Trudeau's and Trump's comments.

Trump:
Quote:
Fidel Castro's legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights...While Cuba remains a totalitarian island, it is my hope that today marks a move away from the horrors endured for too long, and toward a future in which the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom they so richly deserve.
