I was born here and have been here for 30/33 years of my life.
My kids are born here and we just built a brand new house here. My wife has a sweet gig at the Children's Hospital.
I am here for life. I love this place.

I intend to be a angry hobo with a shotgun going from city to city righting injustices and eating out of dumpsters. Accompanied by my loyal three legged dog Plutonium Pete I will become a legend spoken of with fear by evil doers and awe by bottle depot employees.

I've lived here my whole life and as such have suffered more than my share of cold weather. It would suit me fine if I could live in Calgary from May till December and somewhere warm the rest of the time. If the kids ever left Calgary though that would all go out the window and I'd move to a warm climate in a heartbeat. I like the City but not the weather here.

I grew up in Calgary, left to Montreal for university, moved around in my 20s, came back to Calgary for five years, and just moved back to Montreal.
This city is very fun and interesting (and has some good opportunities), but Calgary's home for me and I'll likely be back eventually.
Pretty worried that it could be awhile before Calgary trends up again though. If not Calgary, BC somewhere for me.
Unless I get really rich. Then it's Hawaii forever after.

Born here, lived in TO, moved back, went to University in Lethbridge, moved back. Calgary feels like home, but now that my folks live in BC, I wouldn't mind living out there for a couple years.

I've lived in 6 different cities/towns over my lifetime and have enjoyed meeting new people and creating new friendships. I look forward to my next adventure should that ever happen.

I actually think I would prefer our winters to their summers.... and funny enough, my wife is Vietnamese as well
As for the topic, probably yes - although one plan is once we retire in about 10 years, spend the spring/summer here, spend the winter over in Asia (Vietnam, Thailand, somewhere nice and cheap)

Born here and been in Calgary my whole life. Honestly, too many roots here. All my friends and family live here, think I would be too lonely living anywhere else. That and I dont really make new friends or contacts very well, so its probably Calgary forever. No complaints from me. Maybe with a little more travelling in the winter months.

I dont know, probably. I'm born and raised here and my wife and I are somewhat tied here due to her work and my business but you never know what the future holds.
I love this City, but I wouldnt mind moving one day just for something different. But I imagine I'd always hold roots here and wind up coming back.

This will be my home base. But I'm going to buy a condo in Maui in the next year or two, let VRBO work its magic for 10-15 years, and when it's paid off, and I retire, I'll do 6 and 6 split between Hawaii in the winter and Calgary in the summer.

Love this city, will likely always be my base, it's been good to me and my family and friends are here... but something has been tugging me lately. I'd like to try smaller town living atleast once (Penticton or Osoyoos is what I had in mind)... but I'm starting to more seriously consider a place in California, such as San Diego or San Francisco for a couple years. Just gotta find out how to actually do that...

Having moved to Victoria in summer 2015, spent half a year in Cambodia working since then, and moving back to Victoria following the stint in Asia, I would move back to Calgary if I could.
Lots of great things on the West Coast, certainly lots to love. The scenery, the food, the beer... plenty of reasons to stick around. In the end, we learn to live according to our environment and I miss the place I was raised.
I miss the look and the feel of the Rockies. I miss the metropolitan/small town feel of Calgary. I miss the connections I have cultivated over a couple decades while I was there. I miss my family, I miss watching my niece and nephew grow as they become full-fledged human beings.
I miss the tackiness of Flames Central. I miss the spirit of the city, whether it is the simultaneous Nenshi bashing and loving, or the solitude of Fish Creek. The awkward "prominence" of the Calgary Tower.
Oh, and its still surprisingly vibrant. Calgary just has this great, entrepreneurial feel to it. Hard to pin down, but I know it is there.
I always planned to move away from Calgary, but I always miss it when I do. It shaped who I am and I love every bit of it, even the parts that I wish I could change.
Weird relationship, what we got going on. But that is love.
I say: GET OUT. Leave, it will make you miss it all the more.
Sorry, few drinks deep tonight.

I started to wonder that when I hit this line:

right now I would love to move someplace like fernie, bc. When I stop working full time, I hope to move someplace smaller and then possibly come back to Calgary or a larger city in alberta when it is time to live in an assisted facility

Loved Calgary. Hated winter. Moved to Panama.
Living the dream? Yes and no. While enjoying coffee on the terrace EVERY morning and happy hour EVERY afternoon, there are definitely many frustrations that are included in this lifestyle. Without going into detail, those of you planning on continuing life in Calgary make sure you appreciate what you have. While 2 years of being here has been a great experience I look back to my time in Calgary and all those things I took for granted.
