I had a full replacement, as in new and crated, engine put into a BMW I owned. Invoice price was $30K for the engine and install (though I didn't pay that). It definitely both increased the sale price when it was time, and made it sell very quickly.
That being said, I despise Calgary BMW for other reasons. If I could find a stronger word than despise I'd use it. I will never purchase anything from them again.
