I bet Arizona is asking for much more than Duclair is worth.
Would I trade a 2nd for Duclair? Sure, I might throw in a prospect as well. But I bet the Coyotes are asking for a ton, and Duclair is not worth a ton.

Doesn't address a team need and you probably have to overpay to get him.
Pass.

That first sentence is right on. Not all young players improve every year.

Thing is, why is a rebuilding (perpetually building?) franchise willing to sell low on a seemingly good young player? Huge red flag. Baertschi-like red flag. Either something is wrong with the player or something is wrong with the GM.

I would rather look into Virtanen than him. Cheaper and fills a positional weakness. I am by no means a huge Virtanen fan either.

This is probably more of a case like Hamilton in which teams see another team playing badly and start calling up about trying to poach youngsters. I doubt Coyotes are shopping him, just like the Hamilton rumours.

Lance Bouma and a second. That's it.

Bouma + 2nd for Virtanen?
Oh wait it's Benning.... Bouma for Virtanen + 2nd then.

Duclair has been overrated since he made it to the NHL. Lots of speed, but that's about all he brings.
I seem to remember their being concerns over his attitude in his draft year and that's why he fell.
I see Duclair as a smaller, slower Micheal Grabner.
I would pass.

Rangers didn't think twice about moving him either

The rangers didn't think twice because they were getting Yandle in return. Not because Duclair had underperformed.
If memory serves me correctly around that time Duclair had one helluva WJC and was arguably the best forward on the team, IMO...
Duclair can play a possession game, has wheels, skill and grit.
And again, as for a positional need, Duclair has played a ton of RW and is very familiar with the position.
Duclair's underwhelming numbers are not indicative of a player not hitting his potential, the entire forward ranks for Arizona are poor. That's indicative of a poor system. Sound familiar?
I don't think the Flames should be throwing around blue chip prospects and high end picks but if you could get Duclair for Bouma and 2nd, you do that deal all day.

The same Grabner who's among the best producers in the league right now? Duclair is also a late 3rd pick, so if he pans out to be a Grabner, that's a success

That's how I view it too.
Also, couldn't any player be had 'for the right price'

Scored some goals piggybacking off Domi. He shot 19% last year. Tied with Joe Colborne for 3rd/4th in the league. The players who shoot freakishly high like that are either one hit-wonders or from a group of a select few superstars.

I'm surprised at people's opinions of Duclair. If he could be had for Poirier + a 2nd, I'd be all over that. Whether he were on the LW or RW, he'd be 3rd on the depth chart and could be expected to play up in the case of an injury.

Sure, if the acquisition price is a third-round pick. It would take much more than that to pry him out of Arizona, though.

Duclair would be a terrific fit on the Flames. Just not sure they have what Arizona would want.
