Nope, I have watched a few games, and right now, I don't even remember who's on what team.

This thread seems so off-base and unnecessary that I think gifs are more suitable than actual responses, but I'll bite.
I watched some good WCOH games but that has no effect on the NHL season for me. The world cup was a great warmup to the season for these great players and the rust is gone as a result. I don't think it's a coincidence that Frolik has been our most consistent forward all season long. During the WC he had too many quality chances to count, but missed the net by an inch on most of them. He's capitalizing on some chances now and playing even better hockey.
The Flames sucking major suckage has been the lame part of this season for Flames fans and I don't know how your brain is rationalizing that the WCOH is actually to blame. But I've been watching other games as well cheering on my hockey pool and it's been great.

I'm not just talking about the Flames. I'm having trouble sitting through out of market games that I usually find quite entertaining. No creativity, just completely systems base full of low-skilled plugs. Obviously, systems are what's going to win you hockey games in the NHL, and we aren't going to get away from it. I just find the lack of entertainment factor those systems lead to is much more evident to me coming off watching the World Cup than had I not watched that tournament.

I dont know if I can blame the World Cup for the Flames coming out of the gates like a race horse that was promptly shot in the face.

Have you ever watched international hockey before the World Cup? Surely the Olympics or World Juniors would have killed your interest long before the World Cup

I enjoyed the World Cup. Also enjoy Olympics, World Junior, World Championship, Macs Major Midget etc.
None of it has ever affected how I view NHL. I get the OP'a point but none of it is new.

You can't have a league with rosters full of all-stars playing every night unless it's a <10 team league.
Yeah it's nice and fun when those tournaments come around where the level of hockey is at its highest but if you're going to have a team represent every city that is in the league including Calgary, the talent level is going to be diluted a bit. The reason I get so invested in hockey is cause there's a team that I grew up around and represents my home city. I am nowhere near as invested in team Canada (except Olympics, it's close then) as I am in a local team. So.. no. The hockey is more consistently entertaining on the international stage but that homer feeling makes up for the less exciting games.

My beef with hockey is plain and simple. There is no hitting anymore and it's all cheap stick work now.
Watching players turn away from contact is so boring. I like games with at least some intensity, physicality and emotion. Without hitting there is simply none of it.
This version of NHL hockey is almost unwatchable in my opinion.
