Well at least Wotherspoon will be coming off an election high after a Trump win, so maybe he'll play with more gumption.

No I would rather see them get 18 minutes and chiasson somewhere else. It can't get any worse swing for the fences with the young guys now.

Or let the young guys keep on the roll they're on and call up the experienced NHL guy who has put it together of late. If Vey cannot hack it up here then go back and pluck someone else.

Just checked out Stockton's stats, some guys are having nice starts to their season... when did we get Keith Aulie back? I remember how bummed I was when he was included in the Phaneuf trade, obviously I was wrong as he didn't amount to much. I didn't hear about his return though.

he's on a PTO only at the moment. They signed him a week ago when Robak left for Utica.

He was signed to an AHL PTO last week. They basically signed him to replace the veteran presence of Colby Robak who left his PTO with the Heat to sign an AHL deal with Utica.

If it's a short term call up you go with guys with experience, why bring a young prospect up to send him down in a week or two? Doesn't make sense.

Relax buddy. The kids are rolling leave them be. Vey fits the roll just fine. This isn't a fantasy world where you just swing for the fences.

That's how players like Gilbert Brule get completely effed up and their careers derailed.
Team composition is not all about you, dude. Like it or not, Vey earned a recall on merit.

I hope Wotherspoon takes advantage of his opportunity when he gets a chance to play. I'm indifferent to Vey as he's got NHL experience so it makes sense for a short term call-up as you don't want one of the younger guys having a good AHL season up for a cup of coffee and sent back down again which may disrupt things.

I don't mind Vey being recalled and other players left simmering a while longer. Does Vey have as much upside long-term as some of the other prospects on the Heat? I would think not. However, what Vey does have is more NHL experience, a familiarity with the head coach already and probably some of the system that Gulutzan runs, and has also earned the recall on merit on top of it.
This team has been having some issues, so bringing in a guy that you can plug into the lineup and not have to worry about so much is a good thing right now. Let the more legitimate prospects keep gaining confidence and doing great things in a winning environment in the meantime.

I'm not sure I understand the Wotherspoon recall? Do they need to be at 8 defenseman to take full advantage of LTIR?

I think the Wotherspoon recall was not a recall but an accident in regards to the AHL transactions. If you look at it there's an entry saying he was recalled but then a transaction following saying he was returned.

A few things.
1. Everyone knew when he signed he'd be a bubble guy and go up and down between the farm
2. He will probably sit in the pressbox, better him than one of the kids; especially since Bouma could be out a couple weeks.
3. He's played quite well with Stockton so far putting up around a point per game.
4. From a pure dollar standpoint he makes about 500k more in the NHL than the AHL, other guys would see closer to a 850k increase while in the NHL.

It really honestly isn't time for an AHL player to be "trying out". It's time for a vet to plug a hole. If the Flames had done the traditional 2g 7d 14, there's a good chance Vey would have been the 14th forward to start the year. Now that the LTIR cap issue is resolved, I think, Vey could be here for a bit.
Who is or isn't called up at this point is secondary to the Flames figuring out how to play better and win more games. If learning the system is a problem, then maybe Vey, who played under Gully last year might have a leg up.

Hey man . I remember a time when everyone thought Backlund at his age was a ####ing joke. It wasn't just chrisOsullivan saying he was ####. There was alot of people doubting him because year after year he was considered fragile and that he was useless because he was always injured.
All I'm saying is let's give each call up a chance. Who knows which one will stick .

What roll is that? Come in and play, have everyone say they are excited that he did nothing wrong but didn't provide offensively and lose 4-1? This team loses 4-1without that.
I understand the idea of letting the kids roll in Stockton and let them grow, but you have to give the homegrown that are flying a chance with big minutes. What will Vey bring to this team in your honest opinion?

That's actually a pretty good comparable, at least production-wise. If you look at the NHL games in their first 3 seasons (Backlund's single in 08-09 notwithstanding), you get:
Backlund:
23 games, 1 goal, 9 assists, 10 total points
73 games, 10 goals, 15 assists, 25 total points
41 games, 4 goals, 7 assists, 11 total points
Vey:
18 games, 0 goals, 5 assists, 5 total points
75 games, 10 goals, 14 assists, 24 total points
41 games, 4 goals, 11 assists, 15 total points
Given everything that Vey's had to deal with in his personal life, I think it would be shocking if it didn't affect him on the ice, and as Backlund is showing, sometimes it takes guys a little longer to really get it together. Let's not write him off before he's even played a game for us.
