I think Jokipakka would be the odd man out if Grossmann returns. Didn't that happen last time?

Joki looked fine last night. Why is this move necessary?

If Calgary tries to play LA's style of game, the Flames are likely to lose. Calgary just can't do what LA does.
If the Flames beat LA, I think it'll be with speed.
Grossman would just make the Flames slower and more Suttery. I think the Flames should just use the same defense as the last game.

Same thing was said last time Jokipakka was scratched.

Jokipakka has a 5.84 GA/60 against LA in is career with a CF% of 34.8%.
Granted It's only been 40 minutes of ice time though so a pretty big sample bias, but still he has been abused by LA in his career.

Who cares about the Kings and their size? They have been just as mediocre out of the gate as the Flames this season and have issues scoring goals on anybody. I've never bought into the theory of changing things up to match your opponents as that means you are accepting that your opponent will dictate the game. If the Flames can't beat the Kings playing to their own strengths then they probably aren't going to be a very good team this season.

Excellent news! Let's hope he splits up all the D pairs again and moves Brodie back to the side where he's struggled so much. This coach is gonna be the death of me.

As long as he sticks with the Brodie- Giordano pairing, I'm not outraged.

Grossman was solid in his last game. No problem seeing him in the line-up against a big physical team.

Kings are flailing. Keep Kulak in for eff sakes. Give him confidence. I haven't lost my shinguard on this team in a long time, but Grossman would be such a DUMB decision ("cuz LA is big"). Just run a lineup out there that has confidence. GG is going to outsmart himself out of a job with this crap.

Relative to their team, Kulak has been one of the best players in the league so far this year. He couldn't be doing any better. He needs to be in the lineup.

The Kings may still have size, but they sure aren't mean anymore.
Richards - gone
Lucic - gone
Brown - old
Nolan - healthy scratch
Regehr - gone
Mitchell - gone
Would be a strange move for Gulutzan to bench Kulak, in favor of Grossmann just for the sake of his physicality.

That's definitely not true. Brown just turned 32 today (thought he seems older since this is his 14th year in the NHL). His offence has fallen off since the last lockout, but he still plays with an edge.
This season he seems a lot more fired up than he has been recently.

That's probably the oldest 32 year old in the NHL. So much miles on his body and he's become kind of a parody in the NHL where all fans make fun of him. He's pretty much useless these days and hasn't surpassed 30 points since 2011.

Hopefully Gio will blow him up a few times for old times' sake.

Speaking of LA players who are old for their age
Gaborik has sure fallen off a cliff these past few years. I bet he doesn't break 25 points this year.

Plus Grossmann was just fine the last time he got in the lineup. I prefer getting everyone on the roster regular games every now and then. Obviously Kulak deserves more frequent starts though.

I talked to Roger about this yesterday, my beef isn't with Grossman at all, or Grossman being in the lineup. For the most part I think Gultzan has been spot on with his roster moves and leaving forward lines together etc.
I just wonder what Brett Kulak looks like in January if he's given 30 games before then and not 8. Could be the top four this team needs for the push into February-April.
