I was at that game. Couldn't believe Ferland missed. Couldn't believe Stajan scored it. Couldn't hear for the next 24 hrs. One of the funnest nights of my life.

It was my first and still only game I've been to at the Saddledome...amazing evening! 😎

What's stajan got left on the contract - just this year or more? If it's just this year I could see signing him for 2 more years at around 1.5, taking him to 34. Still a great vet if at a reasonable price

If he keeps his play up then I don't even mind his contract at the moment, he seems to be adjusting extremely well to Gulutzan which is great to see. Don't like him on the PK so far but it might be more about him being dragged down by Bouma and the D.
Funny that this thread is started with "I like" Stajan. No stats other than his good face off stats.
When I watch Stajan, the positives are he tries hard. Which is big. He should try hard if on the 4th line with limited minutes. He's also a plus 4, which is big.
However, I also see mishandling the puck often, untimely penalties, and often can't make a good pass which is bad for a centerman. He should also be judged by how well he's doing on the penalty kill. He plays a big role there. Calgary has the 2nd worst penalty kill in the league!
Stajan is also paid waaaaay too much, which is part of the reason the Flames are right up again'st the cap with some overpaid players.
I "like" Stajan too. My real judgement of him as a player is cold rather than luke warm.

I've never been a fan of Stajan. He totally failed expectations when he became a Flame in that trade. Sutter hands him a big contract which he could not live up to and we watched him fall from the first line all the way to the fourth.
Then just when I'm getting excited that he and his bad contract will be off the team, Burke re-signs him to a 4 year 12.5 M deal and makes the statement that a dozen GM's called him to congratulate him on the contract.
After he scored that beautiful goal against Vancouver I turned to my friends and told them I would no longer bash Matt Stajan. I decided he is what he is, even if the contracts he has been given to be a Flame were ridiculous. Last year I didn't post my hate here. That goal shut me up.
That said, this year I have to give him his due. He is playing his role so well right now. These twelve games to start the season are the best I have seen him play in the eight years he has been wearing a Flames jersey. The 3.125 cap hit for a 4th liner still sucks but so be it.
Hope he keeps up this great play because we all know this team totally needs what he his bringing from the fourth line.

Is this a contract year for Stajan? He seems to play much better on his contract year.
Anyways who cares about the stats, Stajan, Ferland and Bouma been one of our best line this season so far. Yes they don't score as much but they are creating scoring chances and they are playing defensively. They are not a liability and they are very consistent every game.

Well, NO and YES.
Technically no, because his contract doesn't actually expire until the end of next year.
But also yes, because there's a distinct possibility he could be bought out at the conclusion of this year and have massive trouble finding another NHL contract.
Moss, Glencross, Jones, Ferland, Stempniak - he´s like Langkow or even Conroy in the sense he´s been able to play well and anchor a good third line with solid puck possession many times.
No sense in buyout the last year of Stajan - it's not like he's Raymond. He seems to have found a second wind this year too. Also need to expose a certain amount of players for the expansion as well.
