Call up Hathaway/Shinkaruk and play him with Gaudreau and Monahan? They didn't do too badly last year together.

The only good news is the Flames are in California and whomever they recall is a short trip away. I'd recall Jankowski personally, but with the Flames in Cali they may give Klimchuk a game Friday night and if he looks over-matched send him back and recall Jankowski for Saturday. Although I do think Hathaway or Shinkaruk are the most likely to be recalled at this point in time.

Jankowski would be a good move, if just for his defensive play on that line (assuming that part of the game is NHL ready).
Hopefully Versteeg's injury is one of those that look worse than it really is.
edit Meant Jankowski on the top line - hopefully his defensive acumen helps that line out a bit.

That looks like he stepped on something on the ice. It reminded me of when Kevin Lowe slipped on a penny someone threw and blew out his knee.
In any event, if Klimchuk doesn't get the call up, what would the threshold be for him to earn a shot?
8 points in 5 games. +8. Leading or tied for the team lead in goals, points and plus/minus
Give Klimchuk the look. He's had a great start to the season and i like the message that sends.

Am I the only one who wants to see some Freddie Hamilton? He's a good player and a right shot.

I agree. Hamilton is hard on the puck and has good skill. I think there's a chance he could gel decently with the "top" pair.
I'd also like to see any of Shinkaruk, Pribyl, Mangiapane, Klimchuk or Poirier.
Basically ready to see anyone other than Chiasson there. We have young guys with skill, something interesting could happen.

If it is short term - Ferland takes Versteeg's spot on the Bennett line, Hamilton draws on on the 4th line. No call up needed.
If it will be longer, then Versteeg's 950K going on LTIR could absorb any callup, leaving Smid's LTIR still saved for a trade situation.
Flames have 2 games in 3 days, then 3 days off. So if they can roll with just the guys on the roster, they don't need to worry about a callup. If it will stretch beyond the 3 days off, then you place on LTIR and get a guy up practicing with the team.

I don't see why people want Hathaway.... At best he's another Bouma and that's the last thing the team needs...

I totally agree. We need a skilled guy playing with our skilled players. We are in California, our AHL team is in California. Call up a guy so there is an extra waiting to play if Versteeg is at all injured. Give an AHL guy a week of being paid NHL money. Give this opportunity to whomever has been playing the best so far in Stockton, it is good for morale and will inject some more energy into the room and hopefully on the ice.
Maybe this a chance to see Klimchuk up with the big club. He has had a good start to the season. Give him a shot to see if a healthy Klimchuk can play in the NHL.
F. Hamilton hasn't proven enough to me, to show that he deserves it more than the guys in the AHL.

We need a creative player on the Mony line, either bring in Hathaway and promote someone else to this line or bring in Janco or Shinkaruk. Although the only problem with Janco is maybe his lack of winger skills.

I don't think Klimchuk is a good idea. He is on a great roll, but it is only 5 games and he did nothing offensively last year.
I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it, I am saying he should stay where he is for now and keep it going. Calling him up and having him play 10 or 12 unproductive minutes could totally derail his momentum. Leave him be. There will be plenty of other chances to call him up this year.
By the same token, I don't think I would recall Jankowski yet either. Shinkaruk is the guy because he has already shown he can play in the NHL.
Tell the other guys that their turn is coming soon.

Try Pribyl on the right side of Gaudreau & Monahan. Thats what the plan was when they signed him (or the assumption at least), why not give it a look now?

Can someone explain to me, now that the season has started, why haven't the Flames put Smid on LTIR. What is the advantage of not doing this now (or after game 1)?
Since Smid was on our active roster at the start of the season, we already got the cap overage for him, right?

Im thinking your going to get your wish on Saturday. I see him coming in on 4th line and Ferland taking Versteeg's spot. They probably won't re-call anybody until they know for sure Versteeg is out for a while.

I wouldn't mind seeing Pribyl either. But the Flames probably think he needs more NA time first.

I do not think he qualifies for it. Did not meet the NHL's standards to qualify.

Of course he qualifies for being put on LTIR. There is a good chance he never plays hockey again because of his injury.
As for why the flames have not done it ? I have no idea. I see other teams also go this route , so there might be some sort of penalty/fine that goes along with being on LTIR. Granted i'm just guessing.

If there is a call to the farm I'd love to see Klimchuk get the call. Shinkaruk might be the natural choice as he's already played on that line and has more offensive upside but I think Klimchuk could be a great fit. The reason I think Hudler had so much success with #13 and #23 despite having average speed was because he was smart. The two things you always hear about Klimchuk are that he is smart and responsible away from the puck. I'd love to see how he would work on that line.
