Meh - they made a couple of mistakes and the Caps made them pay. Good game from mid-first on though, and entertaining most of the time.
Loved Tkachuk, Bennett and Ferland. Thought Stajan had a tough game - he might be done; his speed is just not there anymore, but I get that he helps the kids out with his experience. Too bad.
Johnny is.....stuck. He's thinking too much, trying too hard to make the perfect play, instead of letting his instinct take over. Too many turnovers, too many bad passes right now.

Why is it that this team has to jump back and forth between two extremes (Hartley's stretch pass hockey and Brent's braindead hockey)?
The best period we've played all season was game 2, period 1 against the Oilers. I had serious hope that that was the style Gulutzan wanted to impliment. But after getting tuned so many times, he gave up on playing an intelligent, aggressive, skilled game and told guys to shut their skills out of the picture.
What's sad is this team does have talent unlike most of the squads Sutter had to deal with. Elliott might even get them into the playoffs. But at best they'll be first round fodder for the Oilers or Sharks or Ducks or Kings.

A lot of people talking about Gaudreau but feels like Monahan and Bennett get a free pass. Bennett I didn't even notice and Monahan was completely useless.
Oh well whatever. They'll be fine.

Not to take anything away from the Caps, as they're a hell of a good team. But the Flames beat themselves tonight. Their god-awful special teams are costing them big time. It seems there's always something holding this team back. Last year it was terrible goaltending. This year the goaltending has been solid, but now it's our offence that's crapping the bed. So incredibly frustrating.
At least the Oilers lost.

Doesn't he have the most points on the team?, I think we just need to find him some line-mates he can click with. He was making some big efforts out there!

I thought Brodie played great whenever Washington had the puck...not so much once Calgary had possession.

Johnny looks like a totally different player...still amazing.
You can't say they weren't queuing in on him last season, Almost every team always said to watch out for #13.
He was trying early to get fancy, but then it wasn't working. Clearly coach and him thought to simplify and pass more, but I think he just needs to find that middle ground, where he was last season.

Positives:
- Backlund
- Bennett
- Hamilton
- Elliott
Negatives:
- Gaudreau
- Monahan
- Gio
This team won't go very far with its top players slumping. Overall a decent game though I guess.

That's if you only watched the scoreboard. Can't believe people excusing their play because the scoreboard. The effort wasn't there and the top players were bad once again. It's like they need another road trip.

I thought this was an entertaining game even though the score was low and the good guys lost. Flames played well in a losing effort.

I think most reasonable people think the game was even after the first 10 mins and excluding the PP. Its not an excuse, one team is a cup contender and one team is rebuilding and relying heavily on young players.
B. Sutter team? uh no, that team was FULL of vets in top roles, apples and oranges

We were in this game and should have tied it.
How many top quality chances did our skill players have in the third period which resulted in missing the net?
Monahan on the 2 on 1
Brodie in the final minute
Gio in the final minute
just off the top of my head.
Those guys need to hit the net. Can't have all three miss like that.

The effort and back checking was embarrassing. This game should have been 8-1.
Chiasson isn't a first line player and he's really hurting the top line with his bad passes. Monahan and Gaudreau look so frustrated. They're used to Hudler who knew how to pass and join the play.

Step back from the ledge.
Hockey makes you very miserable it seems.
Don't be so dramatic.

Not to harp on the Gaudreau body language thing, but after the two-on-one with Monahan when Sean missed the net, Johnny looked skyward and was obviously frustrated. It could have just been general disappointment with the missed chance, but it came across a little poorly to me.

True. Sailed a couple shots wide at the end, probably looking for a tip since Holtby's pretty good on direct shots.

Giordano, bodies and Wideman have been completely offensively brain dead.
Monahan was invisible, gaudreau did maybe 2 good things all game.
Otherwise, decent flames game. You can see that they just aren't in the same class as a team like the caps. Imagine this wasnt the second of back to backs for Washington.
