Disagree. Iggy's first return to the dome was an unbelievable moment. It brings a more personal human element to an otherwise cutthroat business.
I was at that game. It got tiresome to here the people gushing over and over about Iggy. Like Jiri said, up on the jumbotron for a brief hey Iggy, and move on.

So was I. I thought it was awesome. Loved how his teammates made him do a 2nd lap.

The Russell tribute was definitely strange and unexpected, or at least I thought so. A little bit awkward while surrounded by Oilers fans to stand up and applaud one of their players. I get it but I think pre-game would've been better than mid-game.
This may be unpopular but I find these tribute videos lame.
I want more hate back in sports.
Kris Russel signs with the Oilers - no way does he get a tribute video until he retires.
Too much love for ex players.
Put them on the jumbotron at the first whistle, let the crowd clap and be done with it. Nothing more is required.
Frick - 45 minute pre-game ceremonies and tributes to ex players that signed eslewhere? Lame.
I agree. Unless it's a guy like Iggy who played somewhere forever and is a sure fire hall of famer I think they're lame. With all due respect to Brouwer he played there for what, one season? Elliott I can understand but enough is enough.

Wait they actually had a Russell tribute...? That genuinely angers me.

I didn't see it, but my understanding is that there was.
Which is exactly my point. When a guy like Iggy comes back - he deserves recognition.
But this seems to be extending to more and more players across the league.
i get the feeling Elliott was very popular in St. Louis. From Blues' Twitter - this couple was at the game on Saturday. They were standing at the boards during warm up and Elliott acknowledged her by tapping his stick on the glass.

The Flames lost all credibility with this long ago...Darryl Sutter's first game back in the Dome with LA, after pulling this franchise singlehandedly out out the toilet, and turning it into a place player wanted to play again, inches away from a Stanley Cup and a regular playoff contender...and after the first whistle, who gets a recognition? A "welcome back Cammalleri" tribute, as it was his first game in his second stint.
Just terrible. Though the same guy sitting in the big chair who probably thought that was a good idea, patting himself on the back for having Cammalleri land in his lap, was cleaning his teeth when all fans and others in the booth were clapping for Iginla in the game just after he got traded.
Jooris might get sent down before the Rags come to Calgary so you might have to wait until next year.
On the other hand, I expect Jiri Hudler will be back in the lineup when the Stars come to town on Nov 10. I imagine he'll get the mid-game video montage treatment as well.
Florida spewed vitriol at Luongo by having great fan giveaways every time he gave up a goal in his first game back. We need more hating on ex players. That seems to be more successful in getting them to come back one day.

I thought that they were just using him as an extreme example to make their point. If there actually was a Russell tribute video that is ridiculous.
Just like Edmonton did for Yak, I thought that was a bit odd as well. This is why we are saying they happen too much, it isn't just because of Elliott and Brouwer.
I believe that those tributes should be reserved for special players that spent a great deal of time with that team (minimum 5 years and either a great player, great in the community and/or adored by fans).
Jarome Igina, Ryan Smyth, Vinnie Lecavalier... even guys like Robyn Regehr, I'm cool. Kris Russell, Nail Yakupov not so cool with it

You have no heart. That was one of the best things I've ever seen at a hockey game.
