No. His name is:
Glug Glug
Because you'd have to be drinking to think his system make sense.

I would normally roll my eyes at a thread like this being started so early in the season. But I was at the game tonight, and this team looks like a team playing for a coach that's lost the room. In a way, it seems rediculous to say, but something here is very off with this team.

This could turn out to be the worst coaching hire in Flames history.

Agreed. It's 6 games, but this is looking so bad because it's the core that's the problem.

Why can't they play for themselves? These grown ass men need their hands held?

I agree with the body language comments. These guys look like they are hating every minute on the ice. No fire. At least for a time Hartley could light these guys up. Ev2.0 has the presence of an inanimate carbon rod behind the bench.

Because the players are being constricted to play a certain way, do certain things, handle and pass the puck around a certain way.......
In other words the 'system' or 'plan of attack'

Just ask Edmonton fans, it's always the coach's fault. Players need not be accountable for any of their actions, especially star players who signed big contracts and are playing like they should be healthy scratches.

And they can start playing for each other, too
Johnny's been bad, but at least I see the effort level. I want to scream when he takes hacks and whacks and abuse and no one on the team does a single thing about it. The smallest, most skilled player gets ganged up every damn game. Someone needs to grow a pair
Also was not impressed with Joki hugging Yakupov in the crease. Might as well kiss him goodnight while you're at it

No, but the other team is just as good or better talent-wise AND they have proper coaching. If coaching wasn't necessary then teams wouldn't have as many coaches as they do.

I wonder if they really need that taskmaster type of coach who keeps the fire lit under the team. Hartley was always about working harder. Gulutzan on the other hand seems more focused on development and communication.

It's foolish to blame coaching for a lack for execution. The defence is also weaker than last season in my opinion and Treliving has made some questionable personnel moves as of late (including firing Hartley). He should be on the hot seat before the coaching staff.

Nashville Predators Power Play: 47.4%
Columbus Blue Jackets Power Play: 44.4%
Calgary Flames Power Play: 4.0%
Hilariously large difference. It's the beginning of the season, but it's amazing how much worse the Flames PP is compared to other teams. The Preds are capitalizing more almost 12 times more often than the Flames.
The PK stats aren't much better.
Both goalies have very low save percentages. The Flames have the most goals against goals against in the league. The Flames have the worst winning percentage in the league, good for a 30th place pace. The Flames also have the worst goal differential. Things can't get much worse.
All this while the team is completely healthy. I guess we can at least give some credit to the trainers, medics, and conditioning coaches for this.
As of now, the Flames have the lowest playoff chances in the league at 29%. However this doesn't take anything except win/loss records into account.
But maybe the Flames just need to get their mojo going. If Johnny, Monny, Gio, Brodie, and Elliott return to a reasonable level of play, a turnaround can happen pretty quickly. Treliving can try to shake things up. Maybe the coaching staff can somehow energize the team. Or maybe one of the players can truly lead by example. It's still possible, in fact, I think it's likely to happen at some point. Just hopefully sooner than later. The Flames really might need a coaching change of some sort, just to give a spark.
Sorry. This post was all over the place.

I'm sure the owners will be pumped to pay GG to not coach for the next few years after 6 games!

By the time the puck dropped on the new season, I was getting skeptical about Gulutzan and his decision-making. There were just a lot of questionable choices in terms of camp cuts, his use of the pre-season, line combinations, roster decisions, etc.
But I was definitely willing to be convinced.
He has... not convinced me so far.

Bob Hartley is still on the payroll.
Probably never should have been let go in the first place. Fire Treliving. Fire Gulutzan. Call Bob Hartley.
